Game did not start but I apparently timed out

I was stuck on the screen having agreed to start a game. When it did not start I refreshed the screen and found I had a penalty for timing out. That is so unfair and very annoying. Is there any way to challenge this?

How long did you wait before refreshing?

It has been a common bug for years that sometimes the game does not load after you agree to start. You can almost always tell, because it will say that all players are waiting to accept. If you see it stuck on this screen for more than like 5-10 seconds, it is always good to refresh.

Thanks, it was ages with all the other 3 Catan players not responding, minutes rather than seconds.
Never happened to me before in over 800 games. Really annoyed as I lost the equivalent of around 3 wins worth of ELO and 10 reputation points for no reason.
Will bear in mind your advice in future. Server has been very iffy for me for the last couple of days so thought it was a server issue!

When I try to look at a replay of the aborted game I get this
