Why does bga condone aggressors filing reports?

Post by ChiefPointThief »

I’ve been moderated 3x on this site. I wasn’t the aggressor in any of these situations. I am not questioning my moderations. I already received my punishments.

The last one I was playing hanabi. My teammate had a disagreement about my clue and called me a problem after a few comments about how poorly I play. Then they tried to get everyone to concede. I declined and said “quit”. They then proceeded to throw the game by throwing away all their clued cards and not cluing anyone. In response to this I said “it looks like you are the problem”. These two things are what got me moderated.

Why is there no option to report clear cheaters as well? You can’t public red thumb clear cheaters but if someone sends me 5 messages saying I’m a terrible player and I respond saying you are being a sore loser that is enough for moderation?

As the BGA policy clearly says, never engage players like this. Instead, report someone who insults or says rude things in chat, or trolls in the game, but DO NOT reply to their messages.

If I reported every hanabi player that does something negative I would have no time to play any games. Also there isn’t enough green thumbs to pass around to report such players.

If someone tries to force me to concede I can’t tell them to quit on their own? If someone is clearly losing on purpose in a co op game I can’t comment on that?

We are not robots. I usually do ignore players who spam the comment section in hanabi but after awhile it just becomes annoying. And there topics about this on the hanabi page. Many others feel the same way and even want an option to disable the chat.

CPT, have you heard of the saying "Do As I Say Not As I Do"?

BGA does not acknowledge the "but they started it" defense. Act accordingly.

I've never been moderated for responding to a troll in a game because I don't respond. Period. I just red thumb them and move on with life. Why would I let that person live rent free in my head?

If it makes you feel better, report them and red thumb them. Then let it go.

Bga says they want you to report but do they really? If everyone hear stooped to this childish behavior of reporting everyone who says anything to you they would literally have thousands of reports daily. But I think the overall point is being missed. I didn’t drop f bombs or anything vulgar. I responded to actions of a player I’m playing with. They tried to force me to concede I said no but you can quit. Where is the crime? If that is against the rules then disable the chat as a whole.

I understand they are attempting to keep this a friendly site but going this far actually makes it worse. It will make people not want to talk to anyone at all.

I'm going to put this plainly. Anything, and I mean ANYTHING, you say that is even remotely negative to the most sensitive person in the universe can get you moderated. Is this an objectively fair policy? Maybe not. But it is a pretty black and white line which makes it easier for them to manage moderation because they don't want to get into nuanced debates about whether calling someone a "pumpkin" (as someone else reported) is offensive.

I'm not aware of anyone who is a fan of the policy and no one is saying you have to like it. But it is easy to follow. Just think of that tattletale classmate. You know, the one who would run to the teacher and whine if you even looked in their direction the wrong way. That is your audience. That's the benchmark.

Hey, ChiefPoint.

You might be curious in trying the BGA chrome extension that mutes everything.
It's really great, though a tad anti-social.
But it will make it impossible to engage into any temptation to exchange words (with anyone).
I think this "silent" approach is a possibly interesting thing, on BGA, since there is a risk of upsetting someone, if saying anything.

Unfortunately, this is one of the few sites where you should probably just ignore the moderators. Use them to hit cheaters if you can, but if they're just wasting your time with their nonsense about the chat, don't bother giving them attention.

So my first game after making my last post my opponent insults me in the chat and loses on purpose. Bombs 3 consecutive times. And bga policy is we can’t do anything to cheaters. You can’t say anything back to cheaters while they are insulting you as well. Just sit there and do nothing. I don’t want to hear the red thumb thing either. I’ve probably red thumbed more hanabi players in the last month than my entire time here at bga. Bang players are probably second most. And I still keep coming across these type of people. The weird thing is that people are doing this in games that can easily score a perfect score.

So tell me this. After every one of these encounters I’m supposed to find 5 players to green thumb (I don’t even think I played with 5 ppl since my last encounter that I haven’t already green thumbed) and then go run to bga so that this person gets muted for 1 day?
