totally agree.
the way too many player use that system is a perversion of it and of the spirit of the game.
they 1o to win on the way they lose to act as ELO hunter, not as fair gamers.
even playing correctly with normakl speed all the game, it's impossible to not become timer negative when you play multicombo cards...
then the losers jump on the occasion and target you.
Deux days ago, 2 players sabotage a 4er game that way, expelling the 2 leaders.
yesterday , I played one 4er with fair players, all agreeing in discussion board to not expell. And all players encoutered some difficulties sometimes with the timer becoming negative, ,even the winner.

It should at least have a possibility to set or unset the timer and expelling system and debate that with all players, BEFORE to accept to enter the game and launch it.
to STOP the ravages of ELO hunters.

Wrathberry wrote: 25 July 2023, 22:34 Sorry, im really really mad currently, so this post wont be without loud words.

i jsut had a 84min game. It took pretty long, because there were nearly no Projects to support and so on.
But that does not really matter.

Overall i played 1:30min shorter than my opponent, but my last few turns were all double actions, which were pretty complicated so they took a little while.
Lets remember: OVerall i still played faster than my opponent.

But in the last 2 turns my timer went red, because i couldnt do the turns fast enough and my opponent kicked me out of the game while the game already ended. i just had 1 extra action left which i was currently doing and both players already were above 100 points.

WHICH MEANS: I got kicked out of a game while i was in my VERY LAST ACTION OF A 84MIN GAME because 2 turns in the whole game took a little too long.

i mean serously? is this fair or whatever? im so damn frustrated right now i feel like i never want to play ark nova on bga again.

PLZ change the timer in whatever way that this cant happen anymore. im so damn frustrated right now, that i can be kicked out of a game where i didnt even play slower than my opponent, just because a few turns in a row take some time.

here is the game im talking about:

This thread makes me feel both better and worse. Better, because I just had this experience and it's sort of nice to know it's an ongoing issue and not just a one-off. Worse because it's an ongoing issue.

It also makes me feel better abt playing people with an occasional abandonment. Previously I was annoyed that someone could have 100% perfect with an abandoned game.

As far as I could tell, in a multi player game there's no way to tell which player booted you? Or is it down to a vote? Because I hate to thumbs down an innocent party. If it's not a vote, it would be preferable because at least then in multi player situations you'd have to be unlucky enough to play against two jerks rather than just one. Doesn't help in single player games.

Is there any log of how often a player kicks other players? Because that would be my suggestion, to raise a flag if a player investigates an unusually large number of kicks . Again, doesn't help the individual but could help future gamers, and perhaps deter the behavior. At least it makes it possible to see and avoid folks.

As someone who hates the time it takes to play non-fast games, I hate that the best solution is to play normal. I tend to give a lot of grace to people when they go over but are still moving. But I admit that in my luck, I was in fact over time. Just feels like a violation of the letter of the law rather than the spirit.

you can go to your play log and find it *
Move 676 :1:01:48 AM
scottiegazelle is out of time, so SaiG0D skips his/her turn

i don't know of any log that shows how frequently a player kicks another, but that is an interesting idea.

*this is also a great example on why this expel is broken. you did a double action here thanks to sunbear and did so in less than two minutes and still fell prey to being expelled on essentially what looks to be your "confirm action" move. your turn began at 1:00:24 AM and you were skipped at 1:01:48 AM

It was a fast game (+1:02 per turn (maximum 3:00)). Next time don't join fast games.

xKOSMICZNYMICHALx wrote: 28 July 2023, 21:12 I checked this game, you went on the red time even before this move, 2 moves before. The other player was able to kick you out even before when you were doing simple moves like playing one animal or sponsor for money.
Instead of complaining about timer play longer games or make simpler moves faster so you have more time for more complicated stuff, timer is not an issue.
You would comfortably perform your last actions if you didnt take so long before, what are you mad about, timer doing the thing its supposed to?

Stop normalizing going over the time limit. In chess, if you clock goes to 0 you instantly lose (and don't even try implying that chess is simpler), i would be grateful for being able to even continue the game after exceeding time 3 times.
i still feel like it shouldnt be possible to kick someone who played faster than yourself overall.

and you ask what im mad about? im mad about getting kicked while i click on the very last card of the game. also im mad about the server being really slow, which costs me at least 1-2minutes every game.
the game would have been over the moment i click on that card. do you really feel like its fair, that its possible to get kicked just in that second? the game would have lasted 1 second longer.

and i couldnt care less about chess btw and how the clock there works. its not like we play for money or something, even in arena mode. the timer just shouldnt lead to such frustrating expiriences.

the idea to add 30 seconds or something to your timer once or twice a game, if something happpens or whatever i really like.
because we still only play for fun, even if arena is competetive, there is nothing on the line here.
and it can always happen that something happens in your life, or even if you just need to go to toilett whatever. for those situations it should be possible to add some emergency time to your clock.
You skip the fact that you went under available time 3 moves before like its irrelevant. The other player could've and should've kicked you way earlier. You were on mercy of the other player. If you queue for fast game, play fast. Strategize, speed up, if you know you will be doing some double action in some turns. You used your 3 minutes some moves before, what were you thinking about. Arena mode is the closest thing to competitive there is, if you exceed time while playing very long overall expect to be kicked out. It is completly your fault and time is not the problem. Honestly, exceeding time limit is too soft, if someone goes more than 10 seconds over it should be possible to kick him instantly, even in the most convoluted sequences of actions.Whya re you even playing fast mode?

I Play fast Mode because i Play fast normaly. On average i play 10 minutes less than my opponents.
And also in this Game i played less time than my opponent. And thats my Point .
I played one Turn longer than him, because i got distracted From real Life for a short time.
And even with that i played faster than him Overall.

And thats why i say, that IT should Not BE possible to kick someone WHO played less time than you.

He could have played 10 minutes longer than me, and still would BE able to kick me because i played too Long in a single Turn.

And you totaly ignore the Most frustrating Part: He kicked me 5 Seconds before the Game would have Ended.

He didnt kick me before btw, because He thought he would win anyway. He got unmannered the Second He realised That he would have lost.

Are the servers taking a dump or is it the crappy player you connected me too...he expelled me but as soon as the game was over and that pos was gone my speed was just like my 1gig connection should be?

It took and average of 30 plus seconds just to be able to confirm my turn...

Not sure if you are talking to me or to the OP. To be clear, I completely recognize that I broke the letter of the law and was behind. That's why I didn't post my times etc. I had a little irritation in the fact that I couldn't physically complete the turn in the amount of time given, but it was a complex turn with sun bear and silver Lake extra turn. My primary point in posting was to express the relief/concern over it not being an outlier.

I don't think that it is possible to create a system in which such situations wouldn't happen. I mostly play asynchronous, preferably fastest version because I can't just sit for 1 hour and be sure i'll make move every 5 minutes without hesitation sometimes.
But when I played last time in real time (and I almost always play on slowest mode) one of the players disapeared about 2 turns before endgame. I proposed to switch to asynchronous (as I always prefer playing till the end) and we ended up in 2 week game. Sad part is that the guy who disapeared finally kicked 3rd played because he timed out (even though we could have kicked him 2 weeks ago and we opted for ending the game).

Such unsportsmanlike behaviour is unavoidable and I believe it's not that often on BGA. When you are victim of it it can really be devastating. But you can give the player red thumb and if he does it again and other people give him red thumb he will be punished.

I think this is really good idea. Timer on BGA is, as I believe, somewhat hard to change, but such thing shouldn't be hard to achieve. I do see some problems with it, but here, where we have so many different games, and only one timer system I think it would add a bit of fair play :)
