Re: Arena
It's seriously 2 players again ? I've waiting 3 months for nothing... 3 players is random enough but at least you can fight for second place with a bad starting hand.
2 players match :
Player 1 have good hand. Player 1 is happy.
Player 2 struggle a couple of turn hopping for a miracle.
Player 1 logically wins because it's not a begginer. Player 1 won doing nothing special.
Player 2 actually played the game but lost all it's puntos. And time.

Fair enough, 2 players fans had fun last season, now let's back to normal please

Re: Arena
3 player is not at all as competetive, as you rely more on luck/other players plays/and there is also less interaction and strategic options. Hence 2p is the obvious choice for arena IMO. I honestly have a hard time seeing more than a handful strong/master players complain.

I've placed top 10 every season so this comment makes me compelled to pitch inmycupoftea wrote: ↑12 July 2023, 17:00 3 player is not at all as competetive, as you rely more on luck/other players plays/and there is also less interaction and strategic options. After 3p seasons and going into the 2p season I thought it would be a downgrade. Harder to make up for a bad opening hand and the pink powers are noticeably weaker.
However, even though I think 2p makes for a slightly worse game and I don't think my fears were unjustified, the overall Arena experience might actually be better in 2p. The games are faster (with conceding being an option!!) and there's no 3rd player to benefit more than you from an opponent giving away too many free things. The math on which effects to activate is also streamlined. And, for a while, the slight change in strategy to figure out was interesting.
So my opinion is that there's pros and cons to both 2p and 3p as the possible Arena setting and both are fine (I do think 4 or 5 would be wrong.)

Re: Arena
This is the biggest reason I think 2p is so much better for Arena, especially Wingspan. When it was 3p, I lost multiple times due to the 3rd place player activating hunt effects when winner had a pink bird. Feels bad to lose directly to others' mistakes.Lumin_S wrote: ↑12 July 2023, 17:52... there's no 3rd player to benefit more than you from an opponent giving away too many free things.mycupoftea wrote: ↑12 July 2023, 17:00 3 player is not at all as competetive, as you rely more on luck/other players plays/and there is also less interaction and strategic options. Re: Arena
Does anyone know where we can vote for the new season rules? I was elite status last season but never saw anywhere to vote.
I'd prefer to allow Franklin's Gull, Killdeer and ravens or at least just the Franklin's Gull and Killdeer. A lot of other cards are based on the assumption that these cards are potentially available, like tuck and lay birds in the grassland. The game designer has never blessed these changes as far as I know. I know I've seen Elizabeth Hargrave complain about people demanding house rules based on the ravens. They're optional for Oceania, of course, but there's no Oceania Expansion on BGA and I've never seen the killdeer and franklin's gull banned elsewhere. If you can some cards, people just start complaining about others as we've seen for the wood duck.
I'd prefer changing the number of players each season as well. Every player count is great, but quite different.

Re: Arena
not to mention a 3p wingspan game is asymmetrical, meaning there will be one player who starts the round twice and gets to pick the cards that just got revealed. IMO the 2p game is the most balanced and strategic.Fletcheese wrote: ↑12 July 2023, 20:03This is the biggest reason I think 2p is so much better for Arena, especially Wingspan.
