worst rolls topic

I really like this game, it is so different than most of what I had been playing in BGA

And I'm totally fine with the randomness, since the matches are fast, and even within a game there are so many dices rolls that it kind of evens out

That said, sometimes it feels extra bad, and I thought it would be cool to share our "worst stories"


I think after ~170 games mine is this for sure:

1/1 hit on armor
2/2 hit on armor
4/4 hit on infantry
2/2 hit on armor. I attack armor back with one die and miss
I play ambush and hit 1/3 with no flags, and then get my armor hit by 3/4 dice getting destroyed

None of the hits was wasted, meaning my infantry was at strenght 4, etc

I have played Memoir’44 for a long time IRL and on diverse platforms. So I have also seen units perish (or conquered) in one throw.

There a finest hours with no activations (only flags and grenades) are bad.

But the worst is a Medics and Mechanics on an infantry with no heals.

The IRON MAN achievement (one of your infantry units resisted 10 dice without suffering loss) from the DoW platform was one of the toughest to get. Some of the long time players with many many games under their belts don't have that one. You had to be incredibly lucky to survive 10 dice in a row against infantry. More recently, I had a game where I went 1/20 or something against armor and my opponent went 8/9. That was frustrating. Sometimes it happens, it's part of the game.

I once played a game where I had a 6 card hand and played a Medics and Mechanics on a weakened infantry unit. Nothing, wasted turn. Next turn I played Their Finest Hour... Again no orders!
I may have been mumbling things under by breath after that happened....

The worst roll is when your hand accidentally spills your drink all over the board.

Worst rolling: I once was playing in the finals of a tournament, and my opponent rolled 0-for-21 against my armor and 0-for-12 against my back-row artillery.

Best rolling: Two weeks ago, in a "Tigers in the Snow" Overlord at the World Boardgaming Championships, I saw two Tigers get knocked out on what was probably the first attack against them. (The same battle ended with the Germans rolling double grenades against a Russian artillery.)
