1v3 Catan Cheaters

1v3 for the entire length of the game....

I just finished a 4 player game of Catan, and three players were all on a team against me the whole game. BGA, I know you have a policy of not naming cheaters. But if you have nothing in place to prevent kingmaking, AND you do not want us to warn others of who these cheaters are, then what is going to be done about this problem? Do any of you guys reading my post want to waste your time playing 1v3 Catan against a bunch of kingmakers? Seriously? BGA, please let me name those who were in that game so nobody else can fall victim to them. This is getting out of hand at this point.

You can publicly red-thumb them. If enough players do that, it impacts their karma.

Also, naming in them in the forum isn't really that helpful because 1) most players don't read the forums and 2) the "cheater" players can just change their names.

It stinks that you had this experience, but your best action is to red thumb the players and move on.

That's not enough. More should be done to prevent this type of behavior. Or at the very least allow others to inform the public about who the cheaters are so they can be avoided. The red thumb thing literally does nothing to help others avoid this problem. And since there is no fear of any serious backlash for this type of behavior, certain players will continue to do this. More disciplinary action is needed to ensure games like Catan can remain playable.

That's not enough. More should be done to prevent this type of behavior.

More like what?

1) Give a specific example of something you would like to have done.
2) Try to come up with an estimate of what it would cost for the thing you want done (in terms of paying someone to program it if it's a coding solution and/or administrative time).
3) Share if you are willing to a) pay extra to have that thing done or b) divert administrative time away from maintaining the site infrastructure to deal with that thing instead.

There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Red thumbing is obviously inadequate and a crude tool for dealing with cheaters, but it basically administers itself. If enough people red thumb them eventually cheaters will only be able to play with other cheaters. Yes, individually each time you encounter one it will be unpleasant, but once it starts affecting their karma you can filter by reputation.

I have noticed SEVERAL issues specifically with Catan. I have seen others try to discuss their negative experiences with the same things I have experienced, both this issue with people 'ganging up' and with very questionable RNG (after SEVERAL games, the RNG sure does seem to favor the people with higher ratings somehow).

Honestly, I'm just getting to the point where I just don't want to play Catan on here. I prefer the Star Trek and Game of Thrones variants anyway.

Not trying to complain or start anything or whatnot; just saw this thread and thought I would share my experiences. It's a shame; I would like to play Catan, but it's just not fun on here due to these issues.

In my experience it seems there are just players who don't know how to play with the hands they get, and when faced by a player that does, just assumes the other player had a better hand, even when the higher rated player has an equal or worse hand. It's not unique to any one specific game. Players just don't realize what's going on.
