Players that target a specific player instead of playing to win

Give some variety to your game play. Try defending against that strategy, when you see it occurring. Counter you opponent by going on a similar offensive. Can you win the war overall by turning the tables soon enough? Discover an alternative way to play - target a decisive win at the detriment of your opponent. Mix it up a bit - see if you can still win “despite” the ruthless attack from the other player.

Surely if you have a bunch of simultaneous games going on, a few of them could be cut-throat matches.

A bit of an old post, though I believe that people can still relate. I played Carcassone in RL before BGA and pretty much noone blocked the cities, sometimes would steal the goods and cities and the biggest fight would be over fields. But through the amount of meeples rather than blocking.
Here on BGA the pool of gamers is much larger and from the start I've noticed fanatical blockage. And suddenly I found myself doing the same. Now, I don't like me. I was always a proponent of fun over win. This way I became a person I used to despise when playing live. Interesting psychology.
What "comforts" me somewhat is the fact that these people do that with everything in RL, automatically giving them a label of being... Short:)

You claim there's a difference in your IRL and online play yet assume for everyone else that their IRL tendencies elsewhere are identical to their online plays. That's quite an assumption to make to just look down on other players.

I agree this site is corrupt. I'm not sure if it is every game but this game certainly is corrupt. Bad look on the site that they allow this to go on.

I am happy to see that it is quite common issue. It was irritating during games when somebody kept steeling my cities and roads. However, I have learnt to play with it and sometimes to steel some points as well since I understand it is strategy. Then I met in one game with very competitive person. This player blocked me ALL cities from closing, almost all roads so by the half pieces left I was without any figures to use. It was VERY FRUSTRATING and I did not see any motivation to play anymore. Game still should be fun even though it is competitive. I have decided to leave the game and I left comment which for me was simply statement. It is no fun to play with you. I have been accused of agresive behaviour and left with penalty. Well, for me was agresive way the player was playing. I thought that goal of this game is to built as many cities, roads, etc. and get more points than your competitors not to block your competitors from playing at all.

the goal of the game is to score more points than your opponent. Stopping your points is jsut as good as making my own.

plus, who are you to decide unilatteraly what "fun" is?

There is more than one way to get more points than your competitors. Just because you personally don't like one of the ways within the rules to get more points than your competitors doesn't make it wrong. Your way of playing may be more fun for you, but that does not mean it's objectively better.
