PLEASE FIX the Timer Logic!!!

Post by Coppersnickety »

I was just ejected from a ranked game in the LAST turn the ABSOLUTE first second I exceeded the fast-game timer. That incredibly bad sportsmanship aside (worthy of a whole separate thread), this problem comes up repeatedly with chained extra-action turns.

Because I was on Map 3 with the bonus action as an Association CP boon, and I played an Eagle and the Sun Bear, my last turn had 4 actions.

Does anyone else agree that bonus time should be added when you begin a new action? I’m relatively new to BGA, so is that something we can ask the developer?

Or should I just let it go because most REASONABLE opponents would understand and let you finish?

It is a risk of doing 4-action turns on fast action games.

If time were always given with each new action, players could keep doing and undoing their turn for infinite time.

However, despite all this, I believe BGA always gives a grace period where you are warned a player is attempting to kick you, and you have 20 seconds to finish making a move. It should be impossible for someone to kick you from a real-time game without the 20-second grace period, unless I am greatly mistaken.

There is another thread in this forum discussing this already, with explanation of why it's not that simple to do

I should have done a better search. Maybe I’m missing it now, too, but is there a way to delete or inactivate this thread as the OP so it’s not cluttering the forum then?

The extra detail I left out to try and keep it shorter was some phone browser internet slowness, some server lag, and a couple red messages as was trying to finish the last few clicks after the timer expired. My recollection was that I got a warning message that the opponent was about to do it very near the moment the timer expired and I started panic clicking to finish. When the interface stopped responding and I refreshed, I bet the 20 seconds had expired.

I get the complications of browser-based multiplayer programming, so that’s always a risk. I guess my point is that it shouldn’t have been that close; it’s a valid finishing move and the timer is just too short for 4 actions. And resetting your turn could easily get locked to your CURRENT action after a warning like when you draw from the deck—wit could show an option like “add 1 minute for next action (caution, this action cannot be restarted)”

All those games that were won... maybe the other player(s) was losing because they made suboptimal moves in order to not run out of time?

Just change the speed settings then. It is not what this topic and the other one is about.
