WW18 Signups

Post by Winn81 »

Hello M44 officers,

If you’re interested in participating in WW18, please sign up on this forum. Details are below. Signups will remain open until Oct 31st, or 128 participants, whichever comes first.

The WW (WebWar) tournament started in 2011 run by dedicated Memoir ’44 players on Days of Wonder. The winner has the honor (duty) to organize the following tournament. As the winner of WW16 and WW17, I’m organizing the WW18 tournament. The format is similar to WW17. You'll need a premium BGA membership in order to schedule matches "From the Front".

-Format – Play each side once. A player who sweeps his opponent will get 4 points (and his opponent will get 0). If each player wins 1 game, the one who gets more medals will get 3 points (and his opponent will get 1 point). In case of a tie for medals, each player will get 2 points.
-Tiebreaker for ranking is head-to-head, then games won, then medal differential, then figure differential, then total medals, then total figures.
-You will have to contact your opponent in private message to set up a time and date to play in real time. However, you can play turn based if both players agree.

-Round 1 – Players are placed into groups of 4 based on ELO ratings (some different size groups may be necessary depending on number of participants, if so they'll be assigned randomly). Play Scenario 1 against all opponents in your group. Top 2 of each group based on points will move on to next round.
-Round 2 – Players are placed into groups of 4 based on standings from round 1. Play Scenario 2 against all opponents in your group. Top 2 of each group will move on to next round.
-Round 3+ – A single elimination bracket will be set up starting in round 3 based on cumulative points in round 1 and 2. Head-to-head matches for the remaining players, each round a different scenario.

Scenarios are TBD but may include the following highly rated scenarios from FFM44:
[New Guinea] Biak Airfields Trap [FFM44]
[Russia] Christmas at Kondratovo [FFM44]
Assault from Heildelberg Reservoir
Attack on Tobruk [FFM44]
On the road to Sirte [FFM44]
The First Battle of El Alamein [FFM44]

Tentative schedule, subject to change:
Sep – Signups
Oct – Signups
Nov – R1
Dec – R1
Jan – R2
Feb – R2
Mar – R3
Apr – R4
May – R5
Jun – R6

Once the game is over, you will publish the result of the game in a separate forum dedicated to posting results. Commentary on the match is encouraged but not required.

If you have any questions, just ask.

Hi EMI,

Thanks for the feedback. The reason for the length is because not everyone plays games on time, and I don't want to penalize anyone. I'm not sure the best way to handle, some tournaments use a substitute rule. Got any suggestions?

I'll shorten the schedule I hope it works out!
