red thumb for renegade

Hello
I often receive red thumbs as a renegade. My strategy is based on being the less active an harmful possible (no bang, no duel) and defending myself until everyone is weak enough so I balance the game making the sheriff weak and/or killing outlaws to get 3 cards. Often I discard bang and my strategy is making sheriff and vice totally mad at me. As a consequence, Sheriff often attack me instead of attacking outlaws so I have to to attack the outlaws myself.
I am often receiving red thumbs for kingmaking. However I don't see how my strategy is not fair playing.

How do you know you are getting red thumbs for kingmaking?

If those opponents can't grasp how your play is correct play, then you don't want to play any more with them, anyway.

The renegade who deserves a red thumb is the one who shoots a weakened sheriff, hastening the sheriff's demise.

The only occasion that would be right for give a red thumb to the Renegade is when for example there is a triel with Renegade, Deputy and Sheriff. Renegade know he hasn't any chance to win and kill voluntarily the Sheriff...
