Can anyone help me understand this annoying phenomenon? I’ll start a new game, a player will hit “join” and then it’s immediately their turn yet they don’t take it sometimes for many hours! Why do players join a game then NOT see if it’s immediately their turn? If they didn’t have time why join the game? Happens way too often.

I had someone join a 2 moves / day game, it was their turn 5 minutes after the game started and it took them 26 hours to take their first turn.
I understand joining a table that isn't ready yet and not necessarily waiting around until it starts, but maybe just give it 5 to 10 minutes first? Or don't join a game that if it starts you can't take your turn within the indicated time frame...

A player is not playing. What can I do?
First, please remember that other players have the right to think as long as they need to about their next move... Well, as long as there is still some time left on their game clock, that is. After that, you can use the chat to ask this player to confirm that they are still thinking about how to play.
If the player seems to be away, we advise you to wait a few minutes: this player may be experiencing some network problems or have left temporarily. If the player does not come back, and their clock has become negative, then you may kick this player out of the game. The effects of kicking a player out are the following:
This player will get a 'leave' reputation penalty (see 'Reputation/Karma' for more details).
This player will lose the same ELO points as if they were the loser (last place) of this game, minus an additional -10 ELO.
Whatever happens in the game afterwards, all the other players will be considered tied in first place for ELO, and will receive a % of the ELO corresponding to the % of progression of the game at the moment the player was kicked out. Example: if 80% of the game has been played, the remaining players will receive 80% of the ELO they would have won.
All following turns from this player will be skipped.

There's also "autojoin" feature, so sb can join ur game even if they r offline!
And even if they r online, they could be afk.

I believe you have to play first on the tables where it has been your turn for a longer time. So, if you there are many tables waiting for you, and you join a new game, you still have to play on the other tables first, which may take all your online time.

Which raises the question: Why are they joining a new game when they already have tables waiting for them that will take up all their time?

You can´t know if they just have join your table.
The non-premium players have to wait to a premium player to open a table.
So when you create your table, the person who joins may have ask hours before to play this game.

Also don't forget that, for many smaller games, it's not always easy to find a game in the first place, and certainly not when there are also multiple possible game options. So sometimes people join a game, even when they can't immediately play, because it fits what they want to play well, and they don't want to miss the opportunity.
Also, I'm not sure what the problem is about people not immediately playing when joining a table. It's turn-based after all, with certain time settings. I've had people push me to make moves in their game, when they see I'm online on BGA. I don't understand that, and it completely rubs me the wrong way to be honest. It's not because someone is online, that they are here to play, or at least play in that particular game. They might be playing in another one, they might be browsing the forum, they might be afk but prefer to stay on BGA for some reason.

There are two problems here.
One is people joining and not playing immediately. We have provided a few reasons why they may either not have just joined or not be able to play immediately. Since this is for turn-based games, as long as they still make their moves in time, there's no issue, except that it may look weird or annoying on the surface.
The other one is people committing to a 2-turn-per-day game and then taking 26 hours to make a move (or whatever variation of it). If this is an isolated event and they don't use up all their time bank, that's also fine. If this goes on and they take such long time for each turn... expel them and red-thumb them if you wish, that's what these options are there for.
