This is a grave accusation, provided without source. The old team did not do this, nor has the new team.

Yes, using Facebook to connect and selling data are 2 completely different thing. And what would they sell ? They don't even know your real name, they have very little informations about players.

I wanted to know, as well, so I checked archive.org. Turns out that their Privacy Policy page gets archived with some frequency. I diffed the new page against the page in July, and there's only one significant (words-long) difference:

July: "Data of Content communicated on the Applications (in particular through chats) is kept for a period of eleven (11) months, in an active database, from the date of sending."

Now: "Data of Content communicated on the Applications (in particular through chats) is kept for a period of three (3) months, in an active database, from the date of sending. Private messages are kept until they are expressly deleted."

So I guess they wanted to keep private messages longer than 11 months, and public chats shorter. Makes sense to me.

A French-language discussion thread ( https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32483 ) is asking about the section of the privacy policy that appears to say BGA may share players' personal data, such as the content of their chats, with Instagram and Facebook. I have read Thoun's comment above, that BGA doesn't even know players' real names, which is a fair point, except in respect of premium members who pay by credit card.

I guess the relevant portion is Article 5 of the privacy policy ( https://boardgamearena.com/legal?section=ppac ) which specifically says, "We may share your Personal Data with different categories of recipients, in order to provide You with the Services:" and then provides a list with two columns headed "Internal recipients" and "External recipients". Under "External recipients", Instagram and Facebook are specifically enumerated.

One might construe this narrowly to mean that BGA is not permitted to share players' personal data with Facebook unless such sharing is absolutely necessary to provide players with services, but if that is the case, then when would it ever apply? A broader construction of article 5 of the privacy policy would allow BGA to share players' personal data with Facebook "where it is in BGA's legitimate interest".
