[treated] Unavailable license

Post by Sylafrs »

If the license is flagged "unavailable": does that mean that BGA asked and received a "no" or does that mean that no-one asked yet ?
Since I'm trying to develop a "Minivilles" adaptation, and the license is setted "unavailable" ^^'

'Unavailable' means someone already asked and received 'no' from the publisher.
Licenses for games no one has asked yet are flagged by 'No license yet' yellow sign instead.

Some developers are working on games with red signs as those developers received a go signal from the publisher individually.
Ask the publisher first, then if it fails you should find another game as BGA won't accept games without a proper license approval.

I never had an answer when contacting the publisher for the international version (called Machi Koro, Minivilles is just the french name), so I dropped it.

Okay, so publishing the title is a no-go.

Question: if I continue developing it and then delete it just to train with BGA API, is it okay, or is it forbidden? or is there an "in-between" (example: an option to prevent anyone from testing the game)

As long as it is in the studio and not on the BGA side, no worry. And BGA admins won't let you push it to BGA without licence anyway.

No answer doesn't mean it's dead, if you succeed to reach them, they might say yes. But don't get very high hopes about it ;)

IIRC, back in 2016, I asked BGA admins about that specific licence, and they answered that they never were able to obtain digital rights from the original publisher in Japan. A lot can change in 6 years, but if the licence page hasn't been updated for Minivilles, then it's still a no-go for having the game on the BGA side.

Of course, as is has already been said, as long as you're OK with your game never getting published, you're free to develop it on the Studio

Nice :)
Minivilles is a simple game to code, so it's perfect to start to learn a new API :)

From what I understand, they are actually developing a Switch game, so I understand they don't want anyone to release an online version ^^
Still, if I can get a decent version, maybe it might help them to change their minds, especially if they can monetize the result, but I don't expect they will change their mind

So I tried my luck, received this:
Dear Sylvain.

Hello, I'm Takaumi from Japon Brand and Japon Brand is an agent of Suganuma(Grounding).

Regarding "Machikoro" (Minivilles), all rights to play on computers such as BGAs are NG.
Therefore, the answer is "NO".

We would appreciate it if you could confirm this.

Best Regards,

Takaumi(Hawk)鷹海和秀

I'll delete the project, I learned a lot on the API with the project though :)
I will try on another one
