If this were true, a moderator could easily take action on it, since moderators can see all table chat.RobScape wrote: ↑14 September 2023, 20:19 It was my understanding that ‘red thumbing’ was anonymous. However, a player noticed that I’d thumbed them (they were annoying to me with constant chatter) so i wanted to avoid them) and now they are harassing me across multiple table chats. I also thought that red thumbing block their chats.
Is there a way to block soneone or do i have to continually tolerate their juvenile behaviour.
Note that they do not quite qualify under the ‘report a person’ criteria. I was hoping the red thimb would just remove them from my life and its only made it worse.
Red Thumbs are now advisory only, causing no Karma drop

Ugh ... that sounds awful. The only way I know to tell if someone has given you a red thumb is to either invite them to play a game with you or send them a suggestion to play a game with you; you'll get a message that the person has given a red thumb to someone at the table.RobScape wrote: ↑14 September 2023, 20:19 It was my understanding that ‘red thumbing’ was anonymous. Is this player spectating at these tables, or are they a player at the tables and the games started prior to giving the red thumb? They shouldn't be able to join your games once you've given them the red thumb. And I thought they weren't able to join in the group chat when spectating a table where you're playing.
I just re-read Xate's message in this thread and you're still able to play against each other in tournaments - is that how you're still running into each other?
If that's the case, I would make a polite but firm statement that sets a boundary, such as "I've indicated that I prefer not to play games with you, which is my choice per BGA's rules. If you continue to communicate with me about that, and not about this game, I will consider it harassment and report you to the BGA moderators."

I don't like this change at all, and agree with an earlier poster both that many behaviours are currently not punished enough and that not everything is reportable under the current system.
For example, many Hanabi players have complained about the large minority who deliberately tank games, and we have been told that public red thumbs are the way to go, and eventually low karma will serve as a warning to keep away from these players. Do we really now each have to endure a miserable game with each of these many players (and the huge ELO drop their behaviour causes to high ranked players) so that we can red thumb them afterwards?
At least let us ALL see the low karma banner on other players' profiles, and then we can make our own minds up about whether we want to risk playing with them.

Wouldn't that be a tad unethical?GeraldineMerida wrote: ↑15 September 2023, 00:09 I don't like this change at all, and agree with an earlier poster both that many behaviours are currently not punished enough and that not everything is reportable under the current system.

Perhaps you should make up your mind on someone, regardless of anyone else?
There is no big difference, except:
1. the Banner Wording chanced;
2. the fact now there is no Karma Drop when thresholding 10% (Rep./Karma Drop to 60%) or 20% (apparently Rep. Drop to 30%) Public Red Thumbs.
But even when that threshold-system existed, the Karma drop didn't stay pinned at 60% or 30%.
Players were capable of raising the Reputation by simply playing (1% for each time-respected finished game), and as long as another 10% or 20% Public RT Threshold was not reached again, no Karma drop would have happened again;
3. Now the Public Red Thumbs may seem less powerful than before, because of the disappearance of the Karma Drops (which again, were not pinned down on the individual getting them).
I think Public RTs are now intended only for the Moderators and for the Player getting them (The Banner).
So basically... not much of a difference from what it used to be, trust me.
Correct me if wrong in anything above, but I am pretty sure that's how it used to work.

If Player A RTs Player B, Player B won't see the Green/Gray Dot/Phone Symbol, near the picture, on A's Profile Page.dizzymisslizzy17 wrote: ↑14 September 2023, 22:53 The only way I know to tell if someone has given you a red thumb is to either invite them to play a game with you or send them a suggestion to play a game with you; you'll get a message that the person has given a red thumb to someone at the table.

Huh ... that is true. I'd never gone and looked at someone's page before for that. I wonder why ... I can still see if the player is online or offline - though I can't see what games they're playing.Ze Monstah wrote: ↑15 September 2023, 01:00If Player A RTs Player B, Player B won't see the Green/Gray Dot/Phone Symbol, near the picture, on A's Profile Page.dizzymisslizzy17 wrote: ↑14 September 2023, 22:53 The only way I know to tell if someone has given you a red thumb is to either invite them to play a game with you or send them a suggestion to play a game with you; you'll get a message that the person has given a red thumb to someone at the table.

Re: Red Thumbs are now advisory only, causing no Karma drop
I'm not sure that I have understood what it means.xate wrote: ↑14 September 2023, 10:01 This banner went hand-in-hand with a Karma drop to 60% or 30% depending on the percentage of public Red Thumbs attained. This was affectively punishing the player repeatedly for the same behaviour, as they were already receiving penalties for the behaviour that caused the public Red Thumbs (such as Moderation penalties for inappropriate behaviour or time-out penalties for leaving games.) We do not want to punish players repeatedly for the same actions. In addition, we determined that this was being abused by some players to purposely drop their opponents Karma by giving a public Red Thumb dishonestly.
Does public RT still implies karma loss?
If yes, I guess now if more than one player report someone for the same reason, then it cost only one karma loss.
Or Am I wrong?
Re: Red Thumbs are now advisory only, causing no Karma drop
No, that's what the change is. Public red thumbs will display a banner on your profile as shown by xate if you get enough of them, but otherwise are no different to private red thumbs.
