How are you getting kicked out while playing? I had games against players who waited each time to get to 0 before making a move and I couldn't kick them out because of 20 sec waiting timer.
It is one of the reasons I olay turn based now.
You are just too slow, or overanalyzing. Late game you should know what your turns are going to look like. Yes, they take alot of time to finish everything, but as long as you are not paralyzed by your analyzing skills, you can't get kicked out.

I don't mind the timer in this case, but I do wish in general there were more time options on BGA.

2. Ok for double action, but how do you handle player that would play the card and undo to increase their timer ?
I would say anything that triggers a new action should increase timer by 50% so if someone gets 4 min normally it would add 2 min per each additional action (determination, action: sponsors, etc).

The only reason people try to expel players that are actively playing is to avoid a loss. OP, just give that person a thumbs down in their profile and I think that prevents them from joining your games in the future. I am a reasonably fast player, but with multiple determinations and perhaps a misclick or two you can definitely run out of time on a complex turn.

It's wrong the game allows people to exploit the timer this way to try and avoid a loss. I did have this happen to me once, but I was able to work through it and finish despite him trying to expel me - I had 3 determinations and an action sponsors involved. I gave a thumbs down so I don't think I have to play him again. Beyond that I had a few timer penalties due to multiple actions, but nobody tried to boot me for it.

Please read the full question. The issue is the interaction with undo. Some player could take multiple time the same action and undo it to gain back a lot of time on purpose. We could limit it once per game, but that would mean that if you played it too early and undo, then later when you play it you will face again the too short timer issue. So it's not that simple, otherwise i would have already implemented it.

Extend certain actions once

Post by randomronny974 »

+1 in that matter. If it's possible to add time bonuses (+45-60sec) to all take-another-turn moves (like 2x or take another action), a lot of trouble and frustration could be avoided. To avoid misuse, you could add another button (Take extra time Button) and connect it to the double actions.

Of course, people need to keep in mind, that they will have a long turn ahead and hence be quicker with their moves in advance. But still, considering all things can be quite complicated and it gets worse with every additional move you have. So having a little more time, when it comes down to use another action, would certainly be an improvement to most players.

Please just read my previous answers, you are still not adressing the undo.

Undo issue

Post by randomronny974 »

Isn't it possible to make that +45-60sec action undoable? You click the suggested button and it greys out, whenever you clicked it for that specific animal/action; you could even do that notification "You can't undo that move". So whenever you undo all actions, the game remembers, that you already used it for - say - Golden Eagle. So no matter if you undo and decide to do something else instead, you can't get the extra time again for the Golden Eagle. If you play a different animal like the Hippopotamus, than you have a new button you can use once per game again.

A bit tricky it becomes with the "2x". You would need to connect the specific 2x token to its action, so that the game will know, that this "2x" was used, but another wasn't. Maybe if you just make a list. first, second, third, fourth and so on. So the game will know, if the fourth "2x" was used, but the second wasn't (Not a very likely scenario though, but for the sake of this argument). The idea remains the same: Create a button and let people decide whether to use it or not: If they use it, they can't again for that "2x" or animal or action.

Would that work?

Well then it's just going to be the same issue : i accendately played that card and wanted to undo it then later i timed out !!!
But maybe there will be less complaints though, i will give it a try next time i work on Ark Nova

No, it can't happen accidentally, when you have to hit a button for it. You might play the animal accidentally, but you can't speak of an accident, if you clicked a button after that. Actually I think that is exactly the reason for that button: Have some extra time to reconsider your decision. Cool thing, if you could manage to do that!

Thanks a lot btw: I love the design and your implementation :)
