In a recent Challengers swiss tournament I was paired twice with the same player over 7 games. I'm not sure this person played a full game and it is a very simple game. Admittedly the time rules for the tournament weren't the best but everyone else was doing okay with it. I'm in the last round with them at my table and same thing, just never playing and slowing things down immensely (12 hours over time limit). I need 6 points to tie for first in the tournament but because of this person at any point in time someone could just hit "skip turn of players out of time" and default me to 4 points. Luckily the people aren't doing that (I asked them not to do it before the game when I saw who was there, but now that I am winning who knows if they will to claw back points).
In fact in the first game where I did not know how skipping worked I skipped them because I was in the lead and I didn't want to lose on time by them making it my turn in the middle of the night which is when I found out it cancels the games and defaults to 4 points for all with +ve time on their clock. So my fault and good learning for me, but I "stole" 2 points from myself because of their toxic playing. 2 points that would have secured the win for me without a tie.
Sorry, for the above rant. Just had to get it off my chest but the point stands that this person's profile shows them doing this on tournaments of all types... not finishing games, ruining them for others as you don't actually get to play, and instead just managing your clock so you come first on time (assuming no one skips).. and their reputation is 92% despite having 63 quits and 153 time warnings in the last 60 days.
How is this possible? Is reputation a useless metric if people like this are not stopped from joining tournaments and ruining games for people?
