Nightmare mode = the machine lies to you?

Post by Robjection »

I'm playing a solo game on nightmare mode and two of the criteria cards are "Triangle/square/circle is the smallest digit" and "Square is smaller than/equal to/bigger than circle".

I try out the code 425, a code in which square is the smallest and is smaller than the circle, and I check against those two criteria cards.

The first criteria card returns a tick, indicating that square is the smallest.

The second criteria card returns a cross, indicating that square is not smaller than circle.

These two bits of information contradict each other. How can square be the smallest if square is not smaller than circle? And what am I supposed to do now?

It does not lie. You just have to find which verifier is associated with which verification card too.
However, Nightmare mode UI does not indicate that: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=93818

Let me see if I've understood correctly.

Like that bug report says, the interface for nightmare mode looks just like the interface for normal mode, so each of the letters for the verifiers already has a criteria card underneath it. In this particular case, "Triangle/square/circle is the smallest digit" appeared under A.

Are you saying that, when I clicked that card, I wasn't asking about the smallest digit, but instead I was asking about whatever criteria is actually associated with verifier A, which could have been the one about how many even numbers are in the code for example?

That's the point of nightmare mode, isn't it? Otherwise how is it different from extreme?

The point of this thread is nightmare mode UI being misleading, not blaming nightmare mode itself.
The OP couldn't figure out how BGA nightmare mode works and asked here whether the game logic has a bug or not.

Yeah, now that I know it's just the UI that's misleading me and not the game itself, I can actually do nightmare mode. Thanks for clearing that up ufm!
