Right, it's not literally simultaneously. But you can enter your next turn during the turn of other players (and change it afterwards, if their turn affect yours), which is quite similar.

Isn't that all that Challengers is about: drafting and match-ups?

Language is a source of misunderstanding. (Antoine de Saint-Exupery: The Little Prince) But it is also the source of understanding - it all depends on how you use it. :-)

I'm not sure I agree - that kind of play is only relevant if you're playing turn-based or with someone who's taking their time on turns, but even so, I only feel like it's playing one turn ahead. IRL, it's certainly not played simultaneously, as that kind of play would cause problems (much harder to back up). As opposed to 7 Wonders, which if you're slow to pick, there are definitely times where people have a pile or two of drafts waiting ahead (and other people on the other side of the table with nothing).

I'm currently playing a game of Challengers with 4 other people. I had to wait while my opponent and I played each of our cards in turn (though being the first game for all of us, I chose to not auto-play cards, so perhaps it would have been different with that), and now I'm waiting for the other players to play through their match-ups. I suppose if you were playing real-time, it might go a bit quicker? But even then, I can see waiting. That one felt a bit borderline to me, but as I say, this is my first game.

Decided to play Challengers based off the suggestion. Really enjoy it. It is a great example of simultaneous play.

You get to set up your deck all at the same time and then you have multiple battles going on at the same time. Of course, sometimes you are waiting around for the last player but that happens in every game with simultaneous play.

It is surprisingly more fun than Auto Battlers / Auto Chess the game is based off of for me because it feels like I am in control of the battle a bit more. The game definitely needs more cards though, hope the expansion comes soon.
