I can never understand why someone would be happy to win a game by disqualification.

Tournaments should really not allow people to skip someone's turn. There are the normal game timeouts that will come into play if necessary. I'm done even trying any tournament now that takes too long as conflicting timezones make them nearly impossible to finish.

Why not? We get to deal not just a blow to the time-waster's rating, but also their reputation. Sounds like a good deal to me. If I think something else is going on rather than them just stalling, I can just let the game continue. Since I have the privilege of nearly always being in 2 player, I get to make the call for myself.

Allowing players to skip someone's turn is BGA being friendly to players in time trouble. Other sites I've seen don't offer this, if you run out of time you lose, your opponent doesn't get to let the game go on.

If someone has disappeared for days at a time, sure. But I am never happy to do that, I am annoyed that I didn't get to finish the game. I don't feel like it's a game I won. And while you can (and apparently do) give people who are actively playing the benefit of continuing, there are many who see someone running into negative time as an excuse to immediately boot and progress themselves through a tournament. Non-tournament play is a very different scenario, and I don't really fault people for booting immediately in those cases - but in tournaments, it is very often clearly a mechanism to gain a win when you're losing.

If BGA were to implement auto-booting on time out (especially in tournaments), then they would also have to fix tournaments so that people weren't penalised due to differing timezones between consecutive players. Or everyone would probably just stop playing tournaments. Auto-booting would not work in the current tournament framework, as I think a majority of tournament games I play in would end with a boot. I'd definitely give up playing tournaments at that point.

I was referring to tournaments myself which already have a maximum time per match and will end the game when it hits it. Makes no sense that people inside of those games can end them early.
