Red Thumb and Arena

Post by randomronny974 »

I recently noticed the current #1 in Ark Nova (BDWSSBB) has me on their red list. They were my second or third ever opponent on bga and I recently could not spectate a game they had against a friend of mine, thats why I noticed.

Does this mean: I will never be able to play them in Arena? And would that behaviour blocking all players below a certain Elo not be sort of: cheating?

I can't agree more.
I meet that in other game(spot it) when i was competing for first place.
Some of the other places 3/4/5 block me after losing multiple games to prevent lost points.
This behavior nost be handle in bga, my suggestion is keep arena clear of ban while red thumb can muted by chat to prevent truly bad behavior.

This is the only game you've played against BDWSSBB - 4 months ago

It was not one of your first 20 Ark Nova games (low K factor) and you went over time.
While I'm sure you've gotten quicker since then, with more experience, I think he's pretty justified in red thumbing in this case. I would have done the same.

That's well over 95% of my red thumbs. I'd argue it's rude to not play within the time conditions of the game you selected. And red thumbing someone for behind rude seems like exactly what the red thumb was created for. ;)

And, yes, I would have also red thumbed the OP for going over their time limit and having a history of time violations.

I should have checked on that, guess my memory was a little off. It's been my 30th game, but well: I felt still like a rookie in 2p and had a lot to learn (still have) and then you are facing a Top3 Player. I was probably overthinking a few decisions and my opponent obviously never gave me time to breathe. Red thumbing this is within your rights, but all the chatter hasn't answered the question yet: Am I not allowed to play them, because of a red thumb months ago? I still need like 24min on average for my side, depending on my opponents tempo. I personally don't think this is too much for a game like Ark Nova, though I am aware that many players only need half of that time for their decisions.

Yes, that is how the red thumb system works. You will never face that person again unless they decide to un-red thumb you. It works both ways though. If you encounter a rude opponent you can red thumb them and not have to worry about facing them in the future. I wouldn't really want that to expire even if it had been a few months. The system is not perfect, and yes, it can potentially be abused in arena. But there are so many opponent in Ark Nova I wouldn't be concerned about not facing a few of them.
