Do you literally mean you want them to come via SMS? I get notifications for turn-based games.

OK. You're not getting *any* push notifications on your mobile device at all. I thought maybe you were getting them but for some reason specifically wanted them sent by SMS protocol. Right next to the tab where you set you email preferences, there is a tab for push notifications that has these options:

Push Notifications

Push Notifications allow you to receive event notifications directly on your device. This is especially useful if you like to multitask or play turn-based games.

Enable notifications? You will be prompted for confirmation; you will get notifications only on the devices/browsers you give confirmation to.
Yes No

If your device/browser doesn't prompt you for confirmation after enabling notifications, please check in your preferences that notifications are not globally disabled.

Actually, it has been long enough since I joined that I don't remember if email notifications are on by default, in which case you may have no idea where either the email or push notification preferences are set. To find them, 1) click on your avatar in the upper right, 2) click the icon with three sliders (the 4th of 4 that appears under the "Sound" icon on my devices), 3) click on "Preferences", and 4) click on "Push Notifications."

Where, on this site, does it ever ask for my telephone number? If it doesn't have my telephone number, how could it possibly "push" notifications to my phone, whether by text message or pop-up notification?

I believe it uses a functionality baked into browsers, not SMS. At least, I don't remember providing a phone number to set it up. Unfortunately, if I disable, then reenable, the notifications it doesn't prompt me to confirm receipt again (which I feel like it should), so I can't get back to a clean slate to see the process. More details are in this thread announcing the functionality. It's not locked, so if you need more technical details I'd ask there.
