Why do some people not block with the robber in the first few rounds?

I can be very vengeful if someone steals a card a need on the first turn before I get a chance to go you can bet anytime I roll a 7 the robber is going on them later. Because I think others might do the same, I tend not to steal from ppl who only have 2 pts unless they bought a dev card.

lol its so annoying this house rule thing.. personally if i have the chance to get the robber at start , i will use it for sure to get a card..

its really annoying to see people angry for playing the robber at start.i dont play to be gentle , i play to win and have fun.. i accept people can steal me at start, its the game.

If it's obvious I'm not going to win the game then you can be sure I will try and secure second place by going after the player who is threatening that position.

wow you are the kind of person that make catan should only give point to number 1 .. its make no sense to dont bother the leader because he is too far in front.. the only reason i can see is to keep your rating higher.

I would suggest that a game choice be given as to whether or not a player wants to play with this option. I don’t know whether or not to use the robber when I’m the first one to roll a 7. Also, if you buy a development card in the beginning of the game and get a Knight card, it is a white before it can be used. Another suggestion would be to have an option where there are no 7s rolled for a fixed number of turns at the start of the game

This is a game and should be fun. To me a big part of the fun is overcoming what I like to call “the tyranny of the dice”. It is satisfying to do well in a game when the dice seem to be against you. Sevens early in the game are no different than your numbers not being rolled later in the game

Basically saying that you can’t use the robber in the beginning of the game is changing the rules. Which is okay when you are playing at home with friends and family but not on a world wide website.

the robberl is part of the game and has more than one objective. we decide how to use them, there is no rule that says how, when and to whom to put them. so please if some people complain again they better consider to stop playing the game because that's just the way the game is and there is the thief and steal even if you don't like it. oh, and don't take things personally. enjoy the game!
It's like playing "UNO" cards, there are blocking cards, punishment cards, and nobody takes it seriously, on the contrary it becomes funny and amusing. The other time I played CATAN with a group that, really, we were trying to make sure that the one who was already one point short didn't win, and it was a "I give you everything I have, do something!!!" we still couldn't do anything, but it was a lot of fun. That's the point of the games, to have more fun than to win.

The irony is they call it friendly..it isn't though its them who complain and go for 1person whole game and not even based on winning

It is actually an official variation on the rules, invented by Klaus Teuber himself, called the Friendly Robber. The best solution would be for it to be added to the game options. Where do we make suggestions to devs here?
