Hive Tournament highligh in BGA. How to do it for Carcassonne??

Post by Waddington »

The Hive community has a regular banner informing about all Hive tournaments, with a nice highlight in BGA.

Carcassonne is one of the most played games in BGA, and there is a huge worldwide community playing it competitively, in real life and on BGA.

There is , by the way an active worldwide community organizing world wide tournaments of Carcassonne on BGA.

How can we align with BGA administrators to organize a regular annual Carcassonne 1x1 Chambionship?

If you look to the top players in Carcassonne Ranking, you will see there are great names, all of well respected players known in the worldwide presential competitions!

What page/banner are you referring to?

If you go to the game page here, the link to the upcoming tournaments is at the bottom-left - https://boardgamearena.com/gamepanel?game=carcassonne

And the full list is here:

Thanks but that’s not what I mean. I’m saying about a permanent banner on top of all Hive matches, alerting for a dedicated tournament. It’s not any tournament but a call for something bigger.
Kind of sponsored by BGA.

Hive is a pure abstract designed to be a 2-player game and played competitively at a level that is beginning to border onto being a proper dedicated hobby game, and the long established Hive world championships I believe include part of their qualification here. Carcassonne while popular is a multi-player euro without anything like the same claim (and its 2-player variant is a bowdlerized version of the game which omits most of the intended strategic space). I suspect Hive might be getting something directly from the site admin that it would be unrealistic to expect for Carc (no harm in asking, but be realistic in your expectations).

Thanks for the comments. Still, that’s not my point.

Well, I’m not comparing games here. The fact that hive has a special banner , calling for a dedicated tournament, even apart from BGA, is what called our attention for the Carcassonne development as a 1x1 competitive game. And believe me, competitive Carcassonne is proving to be one of a kind experience for everyone in the community.

I just wanted to understand what does it take to have a dedicated banner for Carcassonne like the did with hive.
This would help the development of the game as a mind sports game and we, the people helping organizing it and improving it would be more than happy to develop something bigger if we were given the chance to partner with BGA like Hive does.

Note: I’ve also become addicted to Hive, but I know for a fact it is way harder to find a match of Hive than for Carc.
And both games are spectacular!

I don't believe you and the reason I don't believe you is because you are wrong, and I say that as quite a strong Carcassonne player and one of the first people online to contribute discussions of Carc strategy. Ultimately if you want to know whether BGA might give you a banner the only people who can answer that are BGA and the forums are not a way of communicating with them, they are a way of communicating with other players. But its important to bear in mind that Hive is something exceptional, its edging competitively towards the category which games like Chess, Go, Bridge, Scrabble, Magic are in (its not there but its edging towards it), and Carc not only isn't even close to that, it probably lacks the inherent features necessary to ever get there (it can never have more than the competitive environment of games like Ticket to Ride or Memoir 44). So BGA might be willing to offer a banner for Carc, but there is no reason to be surprised that they don't, or to be surprise BGA might make an exception for Hive.

Whether you agree or not with me is not important, this is not a post of opinions, but a forum to discuss possibilities and ideas with other enthusiast players and BGA people (yes, they do check the forum) for a way to improve a competitive scenario over a potential game. This is a post to get people who want to help, not just deny and criticize. But thanks for your opinion, anyway.
