Number of different games played?

Post by TricksyFox »

Hi pals,

Sorry for the pretty basic question. I was excited about Mr. Jack Pocket being in alpha, but saw I can't do alpha testing because I haven't played 50 different games yet. Is there a way to find how many different games I have played? I have over 1k games played, so scrolling through my game history and trying to count unique instances doesn't seem like the way to go.

I feel certain I must be missing something obvious - any help would be appreciated!

Alpha isn't for playing games. If you want to join because you want to play a game then you are likely to be a problem rather than a help. Games in Alpha are bug-ridden and they get pushed through too quickly by players who think those stages are some sort of early play reward and have no interest in the hard slog of helping with the development. That is why the 50 different games threshold is there.

I have to disagree with this. I would say Alpha (and Beta to lesser extent) are for playing games under development where you want to help out the designers by giving your feedback as you play. I have had many enjoyable plays in Alpha and Beta and also enjoyed discussions with developers and seen some of my ideas implemented.

You're making a lot of assumptions here about me, my understanding of alpha testing, and what kind of feedback I would provide. I never questioned or complained about the threshold. I asked a very straightforward question about how I might find out how many different games I've played on BGA, and it's already been answered. I'm not sure why you thought your unfounded criticisms were necessary or in any way constructive, but I would encourage you to do some self-reflection about it moving forward.

With all due respect, if you respond to questions with your unrelated personal opinions and without first asking yourself whether the comment is necessary, helpful, or relevant, then you are likely to be a problem rather than a help.

Perhaps the best page if you're attempting to reach the minimum unique titles played would be this: https://boardgamearena.com/gamelist?played=never to go looking for new games to try, and, for clarity, it's not 50 titles, it's MORE than 50, so at least 51 unique titles played! ;)

Ah, good clarification, thanks! And yes, that page is super helpful for finding more games, but at the time I was wondering if I was anywhere near hitting 50. I've passed it now, though! :)

Welcome to BGA Reviewers! you now have about 100 extra games to choose from, and you can share these with (a few) other players each day!

Longest running (public) Alphas (all BGA Reviewers can see public Alphas, there may be private (invite only) Alphas hiding unless you know the developer(s)) appear to be Bohnanza, Xanadu, Magic Maze, Boomerang, and Yspahan (from Summer 2020)
