Is it harder to progress through arena this season?

Post by tonkoch »

Does anyone know if the weighting of how points are done in arena mode this season has changed?

I am repeatedly finding that it's much harder to progress, because you lose more points for a loss or a second place than you gaining for a win. I have particularly noticed that I am almkst always being moved down the ranks for second place, even when it's to someone with much higher ELO than me. It's very frustrating. Has anyone else found this? Or have I just got worse at the game? 😅

Same observation in season 15. Game started to be frustrating and should be light and relaxing.
To exit silver, gold or platinum league player has to win 3 or 4 times in a row. 3rd place drops you like 4-5 shields and win gives like 2 or 3 shields max.
Second place, most of the time, drops you 1-2 shields. Sometimes 0.
We all know that this is super random game and it is very hard to win 3-4 games in a row even for skilled players.
I would say that in long run this approach will decrease active players.

I have noticed this too and it is frustrating, but it also makes me question why a competitive ladder system exists for a game that is not far off 100% luck.

I agree ..

In platinium league :
You win 1st place : +1/+2 on average
2hd : -1
3rd : -3/-4 !!!!

Very frustrating, yes... I don't understand this change. Sure there'll be less players in the future.

Adding to this, even once you're through to the rankings, it's frustrating how many times you lose progress when you come 2nd, even when it's against someone with much higher ELO.

There is luck but not as much luck as in poker. The point is that even that poker is luck, in a long run good players will win. If you play Daniel Negreanu you will probably win 40% of the time, but his 60% will add up. And in 7wa I noticed that it is achievable to have more than 60% win rate, so there is less luck. Maybe I am biased because I am first at the moment in the arena, but I constantly see that players make many mistakes, taking wrong science, choosing wrong deck to get the cards from etc.

It's extremely difficult to progress because the matchmaking system doesn't always match you against players in the similar stage. If you get matched against players in lower tier constantly, you can't progress, because the penalty for losing is way more than the reward for winning.

I have around 70% victory percentage, and I still couldn't get to Elite league in the last few seasons, mostly because I wasn't grinding. This season I decided to grind and finally managed to get past Platinum, only to reach Diamond? Is this something new? I haven't seen it before! Why did it keep saying that the next stage is Elite while I was in Platinum? It's extremely demotivating. I don't see myself playing in the next season.

Hey there, new to the game and this sub forum, but the topic seems fitting.

the current arena leader, the chinese guy, most likely cheats to get the rank.
noticed it in 7 wonders duel. there it isnt even a debate, that he does it!!

Left of the game picture there is a setting button where you can set to not play with players that are +-2 levels from you, so you will not lose a lot of ELO if you lose against them. It is important for this game because there is a lot of luck.
