Have games been removed from BGA?

Post by treelike »

I'm coming back to BGA after a couple years away and it seems like there are fewer games on my profile than before. Are there games that used to be on BGA that have been removed? Just curious if there's any place to find this information on the site.

Yes, some games are removed occasionally due to licensing issues (e.g. Harbour, Point Salad, Insert).

Probably in the forums related to those games, which you can find here: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=18

To my knowledge, the following games have been removed from BGA:

Blokus, Dominion, Hey, That's My Fish! (all three stayed for a short time, at the beginning of the platform), Gosu, Injawara, Insert (This one replaced by the Donuts game, in Beta, which will be a Premium game), Point Salad

There are also a few games retired from beta testing: Yspahan, For The King (and me), Harbour. This list could be incomplete (if you have other examples, I'd love to hear them!).

I don't know if there are any games in alpha that have been completely removed from BGA (again, I'd love to hear about them). Withdrawn games can sometimes still be played by alpha testers and former players (such is the case with Gosu). Does anyone know if this is the case for all withdrawn games?

Generally speaking, BGA gives very little information about the site's history, and very few statistics either (if only the number of games on the platform). I think this is a real shame...

Kinapa and Volfyrion Guilds were at least in beta at some point. Not every retired game can be played in alpha, some say "It is impossible to play this game now for technical reasons".

But are those games removed from your profile too, in that case, if you have played them?

Xanadu as well.
Super Mega Lucky Box was also briefly (few hours) in beta, then went back to alpha.
Catan was also out of BGA early, then later came back after Asmodee acquisition.
Gosu will be back as Gosu X soon, I guess. It's in alpha.

No, some games are completely blocked (e.g. Injawara).

Why would they? Emphasizing the possibility of game removals is a bad PR obviously.

Yes, alpha games are not shown in your profile.

Thanks for all the replies! I couldn't figure out which games had been removed so I thought I'd ask.
