his/her

Post by zlatovrana »

I must say i find it quite stupid that even after I chose female in the settings I am referred to as 'he' (more often is used 'his') in games.
I thought that it wasn't so hard to make a game recognize genders since many programs work that way.
If it is hard why don't you just put a genderless 'they' or 'their' instead. That is a also good option.

Hello zlatovrana,

This is a difficult problem to solve espcially due to the amount of lanuages used on this site. The way gender is used in the games you play is also based on how croatian people have translated the strings (assuming you play with croatian language).

For my translations i try to avoid the use of the Ducth him and her as much as possible, however this is just not always possible. Admins thus use the most used form of gender as you see a lot in rulebooks as well. (they usually state that whenever they write he they also mean she)

anyway earlier discussion about this with answer of admin:

Hope that satisfies your question.
greets,
Sawyer

PS: Your account setting of gender isn't linked to the way you're adressed in games as this would create a big complexity and amount of needed strings for some langauges.

Thanks for the information :)

Well I use english language settings because most rules I read are in english. Also, we speak mostly english during the games so it feels more natural.
Therefore I was referring to english overuse of he/his/him.

I sincerely hope they get to fixing this sometime in the near future.
