Perudo rules are not being respected

Hi,

I just played my first game of perudo at BGA and was greeted with a game that made not much sense to me. I couldn't make the option that I normally would have taken if the rules were implemented as I thought they should. When I stated that to one of the other players I was told that those are the normal rules but never understanding them that way I promptly went to check that out. So then, the english rules proposed by BGA's page for perudo the rules go exactly as I thought and thus I'd like to know if there is a misunderstanding from the game's creator or if it is a bug, The rule that I'm refering to is that when someone called for 4 dice of value 6 I was not given the choice of saying 5 dice of value 3, I had only the paco's or the 6's to choose from.

Perudo is a game with history so the rules may vary. In fact I never heard about rules like yours. Here the rules are - You have to bid higher with the number of the dice or on the dice. You can also find them on BGG.

Example: 4 dice of 3 can be changed into:
1. 5 dice of 3
2. 4 dice of 4

or paco, or higher numbers of course

And what you say is absolutely right. Thing is that when I played it here at BGA if someone choose x dice of 6 then when it was my turn to choose I was restrained to pick either paco's or sixes. Or if someone said fives then I could only go for fives, sixes or pacos. All other numbers were unavailable to selection.
Probably it was a bug, to be honest that restriction was so counter intuitive for the way I normally play perudo that I only did that one play.
But for me what it stroke me as odd was that when I spoke about this abnormal feature to the other players on the table they said that everything was just fine the way it was.

the rules are that you can only upbid. (so UP as in go higher!) never downbid to normal eyes. Next to that you can only choose to increase one of the two possible things you can increase.

You can increase either the number of dice with the set amount of eyes
OR
You can increase the set amount of eyes on the dye but keep the amount of dice the same

You can downbid but this will always be back to paco's. In order to do this you have to divide the amount of dice by two (rounded up). Now if the next player want to go back to normal eyes he has to double the amount of paco's and add 1. so from 2 dice with paco's you go to 5 dice with 3 eyes.

In your first example 4 dice with 6 eyes. It thus is normal that you could not choose for 4 dice of 5 eyes as this would be a downbid. Keep in mind that the English rules that are linked to on the perudo page are wrong as they are of a different variant (liar dice). The game implemented on BGA is the Asmodee version. After hours of searching for the rules to this version i only found Spanish, italian, Dutch and French rules but couldn't find any English rules anywhere so thats a bit annoying.

I've got the Asmodee version too but I've never played it like you describe. So to be sure of it I went to check and indeed I've been playing it wrong, but my wrong seems right to me. Liar's dice ruleset makes so much more sense to me.
I mean, if you have a good amount of 3's and someone calls out for 4's your hand will be worth nothing any more unless someone goes for paco's. But if after a paco call you're not the one doing the bid then probably your hand will continue to be worthless because if anyone else can call for a value of 4's, 5's or 6's and then you wont be able to use your hand to make a prediction thus having to rely on the other's calls....or lies or lie big time yourself.
Probably it's just me that doesn't like to be so on the blind while playing a game but Asmodee's take on Perudo is not that interesting to me. Isn't there a possibility of giving us the option to play with perudo or liars dice ruleset?
