It is becoming increasingly likely that I will have some games still going when I take an upcoming trip where I may have very limited internet access (assuming I even bring my laptop at all) for a week. I've never used my vacation passes or whatever they're called, but as I'll be gone for 8 days, it might not be enough anyway.

I'm not starting any new games but am in two tournaments. So even if the games I'm playing end in time, if I advance, I'll still be in the same predicament.

Is it kosher for me to get one of my friends who is also on this site to log in on my behalf and take my turns while I'm gone? I will, of course, be upfront about it in game chat.

Your holiday jokers (that is what they are called) will work for all non-competitive games, so not tournaments and not arena, and they stack. I'm away for a week next week so I just spent two of them to give me 8 days of thinking time on all of my tables.

I think you are on more dubious ground with a proxy for tournament games that won't be affected by the jokers. Some players might appreciate it, some might (reasonably) feel that if you cannot play you should default - suspect it will depend a lot on whether these are two-player or multi-player games. Not sure how the site will feel if there is a complaint, never seen this specific thing come up ...

Maybe ask the tournament organisers...? In any case, kudos for being transparent about it!

Thank you both for your thoughts. I'll wait to see if anyone from the site chimes in and, meanwhile drop a line in my games and the tourney chat.

I used to play on *, which is a site that exclusively plays variations on the game of Risk. There are rankings, "clans" (which are groups that play together in tournaments against other clans) and many take it all quite seriously. They even have a subform and volunteers dedicated to investigating cheaters (be it people with multi accounts, collusion in games, even farming low ranking players.

But proxies are quite common there and a high ranking player can sit in for a lower ranking one. They just have to announce it in chat. I never encountered a situation where people abused it, but I would imagine they'd take that up as well.
