Archaeologist + Hollywood Hills

I played a game on Hollywood Hills and I noticed that Archaeologist did not allow me to take the "H" icon to grab a Sponsor card as additional placement bonus. Is there a rule that specifies this? Also, is the same true for Kiosk bonus on Ice Cream Parlors or for any other map?

From the ark nova glossary:
"Spaces with an 'H' may be covered like any other space. This is similar to a placement bonus, but does not count as one (e.g. for card 221)..."

Card 221 is archeologist, the h spaces don't count as a placement bonus and therefore don't work with it (they don't even have the yellow pentagon placement bonuses have), ice cream parlors' kiosk bonuses do count as placement bonus and can be taken additional times with the archeologist

I suppose the same is true for the digging spots at map 10 / rescue station?

Incredibly clunky rule. I suppose the rules state it but it makes no sense to exclude and make it different than any other placement bonus.

Nope, they have the yellow pentagon so it's a placement bonus. I dont find it that clunky, a placement bonus is something that gives you a bonus when you place something on it. It's not the case for Hollywood, it's more a precondition for a passive power than an immediate gain. Which is why it's not in a yellow pentagon.

That doesn't make sense? The Icecream parlor spots give a kiosk right away and a passive bonus if you took all 3 spots. They are placement bonus spots. How is that any different than getting a sponsor now and discount if you took all 3 spots?

It's just an ugly rules exception which has no reason to be there. Archeologist wouldn't be any more broken at hollywood hills than it is at any other map, it's not that strong an effect anyways.

Oh right I forgot about the immediate sponsor card you get as free reward. Then I agree it does not make much sense.
The only thing keeping consistency is : placement bonus = yellow pentagon bonus. Maybe they havent put the yellow pentagon just for making Hollywood H map prettier, or maybe for balance reason.

I agree that balance is a factor here and its not a clunky rule, its just that you don't like it. You don't know if in any future there are other cards like archeologist who enforce placementbonuses and HH is already a very rng heavy map.
