You've gotten those opinions, it doesn't bother other people as much, and now you're arguing with them about that

This is the problem with BGA not automatically kicking players who run out of time: People who exceed the time limit blame the player enforcing the rules instead of being accountable for their timer.

When you're in the red and the other player's don't kick you they are doing you a favour and you should appreciate that. It shouldn't be expected behavior.

This was about THE LAST turn, after no time penalty was reached, to kick out players . ONLY to claim a win.

It's still legit. Annoying? Maybe, but not more than playing an "instant win" card in the last turn.

What would you think of the following situation? Playing chess, you pull up a nice strategy, and are probably going to beat me. But at the end you chose the wrong move and instead of check-mating me, you just check and leave an open flank so I can escape and check-mate you instead. I could be "nice" and pretend I didn't see your mistake, you were after all just one move away from winning and were probably distracted by something else. I should have probably conceded some time ago anyway. Or I could just play by the rules and take advantage of your blunder and beat you. Does it make me an unethical player? Does it make me deserve a red thumb? Now let's say I also did some similar mistake earlier and you decided to not take the win. Does it mean I'm obliged to ignore your mistake too?

It isn't entirely clear you read and understood the original post. This is not someone who was timing out on every turn. It was on the very last turn of the game after which it would have been over.

It's still allowed to kick them regardless, but it is a false equivalence to claim the situation is the same as timing out every turn and justify the action on that basis.

I was just expelled from a game of maxi Yahtzee as I was rolling my 7 stored rolls. Whats the point of storing the rolls if your opponent can expel you while using them

lol, the irony. One person makes an uninformed statement that exaggerates the issue and you use it to paint everyone who doesn't agree with you with the same brush. Do you realize how similar those actions are?

People come from different backgrounds. In chess, not only professional games but a lot of leisurely games between friends are played with a clock. When time is over for one player the game is stopped immediately because it is decided. Usually nobody is interested how the game would have ended if there were more time.

That being said, Ark Nova has the problem of one ultralong move at the very end. One needs to choose a time setting that allows finishing such long moves. And one should try to play shorter, suboptimal moves to stay within time - which is unsatisfying from a gaming standpoint.

That's the thing. I don't either. I don't at the second moment. But speed games are just that. And one needs to recognize that part of the deal with them is you may have to rush your move to make it in time. I actually have a very good record in speed games in my favorite game here, but I don't like the feeling of being rushed, so I typically play turn based.

The OP is quick to point out that essentially everyone who disagrees with them doesn't get it, but the thing THEY don't get is this very critical element. In a speed game, time IS a factor. It's not just there to make it so you can bang out a game in a short time, but also that you have to play knowing the clock is a factor.

Well, you can also bank extra turn time (up to a limit). If you're storing rolls from earlier, shorter turns, you'll be able to use them on a longer turn later.

Also, as has been stated repeatedly, if you find you don't have enough time for your longest moves, just switch to a longer timer format when you play the game. BGA offers timers as short as seconds and as long as 2 days.

I really don't want to ride this point to death, but I will try one last time.

The post was NOT about timed games in general, or slow players. It was about players who use this opportunity to claim a clearly lost game as a win. Not because they are upset with a game that took too long. Or because their game suffered since they kept to the time limit. No time limit was broken throughout the game. With like 60 points behind they might as well have conceded if it took too long. We are talking Ark Nova here. As another player pointed out, the last turn is vital and takes longer. Yes I could just not be bothered to go for a good score in case this happens, how sad is that. I've played this game on BGA around 250 times and usually don't go over the time limit even in the last turn.

I only wanted to see what the general consensus is. Not sure if my English is not up to par when making my points. I value anyone's opinion ( I wouldn't be on here otherwise), but some of the points had nothing to do with the intended question and got pretty personal.
Anyway. I hope to see most of you around in a speedy game.
