Tournament type preference?

Post by Soetriet »

I'm new to tournaments and curious about people's preference and why? I quite like a quick Round Robin, but realised that the number of players needs to be restricted? Not sure what the magic number is? Maybe somewhere between 5-10? 15 seem too many? Interested to hear about your preferences?

I don't play a ton, but I prefer Swiss tournaments. If it's good enough for well organized live chess tournaments, it's good enough for me. Round robin feels like overkill; I don't think you have to play every single other entrant to determine the best player. Plus, I'm not a fan of having to play all the RR games simultaneously and I don't see a way in the RR settings to start the games serially instead of in parallel.

There is a way to stagger the start times of a round robin, but it's rather clunky. I set out the instructions here: https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 49#p151349
