Help with counting science points

Post by MaxPower991 »

Hi, I need help understanding the score counting a bit more.
Everything else is straight forward, but science points can be confusing to me.
My opponent had Study, workshop, laboratory, observatory, library, university, apothecary, dispensary and scientists guild.
How many points does he get, and why?

I am always few points over or under what game counted in.
He got 47.

Thank you

You should post in game specific forums.

This is in 7 Wonders, and yes, it should be going in the game specific forum.

That said, scoring is based on symbols, and I don't recall what symbols each of those cards means. Basically, you score 2 ways:

For sets of 3 different symbols, you score 7 points.
For sets of the same symbols, you score the number squared - 1=1, 2=4, 3=9, 4=16...
All symbols are counted for BOTH types of scoring (that is sets of 3 different symbols and sets of the same symbol).

The scientist guild is a wild symbol, so the scoring will automatically apply it wherever it scores the most points.

So your opponent has 8 symbols plus guild, let's assume the symbol breakdown is 3, 3, 2 (it doesn't matter which symbol has which count). Then the wild would be applied as the third symbol, meaning total counts are 3, 3, 3. Scoring as follows:

3 full sets = 21
3x3 = 9
3x3 = 9
3x3 = 9

Total = 48 points. Obviously your opponent scored 47 so something was a bit different, but you should get the idea.

I don*t know the name of the science cards (study, library,...) but if your opponent got 47 points he had a distribution of 5 + 2 + 2 (i.e., 5 of one type, 2 each of the other types).

Thus he scored 2x7 = 14 for the two complete sets, plus he scored 5*5=25, 2*2=4, 2*2=4 for the same symbols.

In total: 14 + 25 + 4 + 4 = 47.
