Turnbased Arena needs an accept before the clock starts counting.

Post by LesserJester »

BGA Please can you do something about arena expelling. I wait ages to get a turnbased opponent. Overnight the system pairs me with someone when I'm offline. I log in today and see the game so I took my starting moves. It's now the other person's turn but instead of playing they expel me, despite my clock being only just negative. I presumably this is because they didn't like the start they got given, or perhaps it's because they were silver and I was elite and they didn't fancy their chances.

BGA why is the turnbased clock running down when a player doesn't even know the game has begun? What am I supposed to do? Telepathically know that the multihour wait for an opponent is over while I'm asleep? Arena needs an accept action whereby the timer and expulsion are not possible until both players accept the game. This goes for real time games too, but today's grumble is over the TB option, which until now I'd thought was more immune from this nonsense.

What are your speed settings when you start the game research? For turn-based, you should be able to sleep and not be overtime !

I should and all TB games I've had up until now have been 1 move per 1 or 2 days which seems to be the default depending on the game. It presumably only launches a quicker game if someone has deliberately tweaked it so. I've nothing against playing a fast TB game, but as I said before players need to know that it has started to begin with.

This game however started with 4 moves per day hence they were able to expel so quickly. It's a cheap tactic, set your options to a fast game then catch out the unaware. It turns out they were also an elite player afterall, just not a very good one so they clearly wanted the ratings bump.

My speed options were the default. SFAIK this excludes 4 moves per day so I'm rather annoyed this game was able to launch with such settings. I've changed the options to only allow 1 move per1-2 days now but it ignored the setting before so I'm still not sure if it will stop these super quick games from launching on me. I feel rather cheated here. I've lost a ton of ELO and arena points for a game that my settings excluded.

Are you sure the flexible settings (crossed arrows) isn't active ? If it's inactive, it may be a lobby bug to report on the main site.

I have a drop down list. No crossed arrows or flexible settings option on there. Bug report already posted.
