Why since the update am I getting an ELO reducer for consecutive wins for people I don't even have consecutive wins against?

Here are back to back games

https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=463270391

https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=463281228

I lost to Twinkle_Toes in the 1st game, yet the next game when I beat him I am getting ELO reduced for a consecutive win streak I don't even have?

Do you have a bug report?

I could not see which header to report it under in bugs as none of the headings under either game or website relate to an issue like this.

I continue to regularly read your messages.
It goes without saying that any regression that occurs may need to be examined and dealt with.

But in reference to the primary remarks:
  • Power leveling: we continue to monitor the status and it seems unfair not to be able to win ELO and only suffer the loss, even for players that keep on losing against the very same opponent.
  • ELO Decay: based on all of your comments, it appears clear that this was a bad idea and that the leaderboard and arena currently in place allow for the prevention of the mentioned behavior. Consequently, we have chosen not to apply any ELO decay as originally planned.
  • Red Thumbs: an attractive suggestion surfaced regarding the potential trade-off of having decaying red thumbs.
It has now been 15 days since the last communication. People, including myself, are still incredibly upset and frustrated by the harsh elo penalty for consecutive wins.

When can we expect a followup communication? What are you still measuring?

Thank you for your time.

I assume this is not game-specific. Maybe something like 'website not working properly'?

Not a fan of this Elo Reducer at all. I have a 7-game win streak against RazorOz in Heat Pedal to the Metal. He is a top 5 player in the game by Elo at most points in time, and now I am getting zero Elo points for beating him. There should never be a situation in which you are getting zero points for beating one of the best players in the world. That's just completely wrong.

From the release summaries thread:

awards: fix awarding of "consecutive wins" and "games played" awards
Anybody know what this means?

Sadly I think this will be the bug where people weren't getting XP trophies for winning streak and playing 5+ games etc. I'd be surprised if it means the ELO debacle that so many of us would like them to reverse. Here's hoping though.

And my 2c on the ELO changes. AWFUL. Please just roll back the code to how it used to be before and leave it alone.

I want to make sure they realize that a lot of us are still following this thread, even if we don't post because we have already expressed how poorly this effects the site. Consecutive win streaks, hiding ELO, etc.

It's not shameful to admit that something you tried didn't work out, it's how you improve. But it seems as though there is a pattern of ignoring users, and choosing *this* to be the hill you die on. *This* being almost every time they made changes that are made without considering the actual users of the site and receive lots of negative and yet constructive feedback.

I think the lesson learned from the lengthy Bring back Turn Based "No Time Limit + Friends Only" thread that began December 2022 and is currently on its 30th page is that you can ignore a popular outcry about something and life will go on.

But to be fair, they did roll back the ELO decay and said "based on all of your comments, it appears clear that this was a bad idea." So they do....sometimes....listen.
