Possible to get actual staff help with username?

What is the actual current policy on usernames now? It keeps changing, with no notice or written policy anywhere on the site as far as I can tell.

Two years ago I dropped my account and went anonymous due to harassment and stalking. Now, I'd like to reclaim my username, as I am working with some people on game design and want to use my actual name again. (Besides the fact that the stalkers found my new account anyway, so short of creating yet another new account, a liberal Red thumb policy on my part is the only option for dealing with them.)

In the past, we were able to claim inactive usernames after a waiting period. Now, apparently, we cannot even use unused usernames that were ever previously used. My former username is not in use, and has not been for nearly two years, and i am unable to use it now. Why? I tried going through the process, but after two emails and a canned response that did't even address my question, the staff member simply stopped responding.

So .. why are unused but previously used usernames unavailable? Why are years-inactive usernames no longer claimable? When was this policy changed? Why was there no notice of the changes? Is there a way I can get an exemption so I can reclaim my name?

It may be coded into the site, and for them to fulfil your request may require them to literally re-write code for the website. Slamming BGA before you've even got a response likely isn't going to gain you much favour....

People with knowledge view these threads all the time but support isn't part of their job description I guess. I've asked questions about moderation/appeal process and still haven't gotten answers for months. I guarantee if you said something they didn't like though you would get a swift response. At least I got the backstory to your name

Actually, it's not. Two years ago, for example, you could claim an unused/inactive username by requesting a change, then waiting a period of time for the inactive account holder to respond.

Before that, previously used but no longer existing usernames were freely available.

So, the policy has changed multiple times. And it's not "before you get a response' . it's that .. the staff member I was dealing with by email, appears to no longer be active ( irony!) and I opened this thread quite some time ago, and it had over 200 views with no response.

I'm not expecting any favor, but maybe by rubbing their noses in it, it may shame them into improving things for everyone.

I for one don't understand why a deleted Username cannot be reused and
why there are so many accounts on here that have been created and never played on.

If an account has been inactive for a certain period of time it should automatically be deleted.

I disagree. Accounts should never be deleted unless requested by the user. Life situations can be weird and I haven't played for 2 years, only to play 500 matches of 100 different games in the past 2 months.

No hurt in making deleted account names available again though.
