When voting for best game let us choose from any game

Post by Pentallion »

The games listed in today's vote are none of my favorites. I've played many games and yet, in three categories, I had never played any of the choices. Why limit our choices? Just allow us to choose our favorites.

Also don't force us to pick games in every category, there are categories i have played no games in, so why would i vote for them. However this prevents me from voting as you have to vote for every category.

Are you literally not allowed to submit a vote for something you haven't played? [I'm not going to try, because if it lets me I can't undo it.] Unless that restriction is in place, then it doesn't prevent you from voting. It just prevents you from voting knowledgeably. The most I've played in any category is 3 games. In three of the categories I've only played one. This calls into question what the results will even mean other than a popularity or name recognition contest. [*cough* Ark Nova *cough*] So it's obviously not to be taken seriously.

I would love to see statistics of what percentage of the active player base has played 1, 2, 3, etc. games in each category. And also, what percentage of users submitting votes played 1, 2, 3, etc. games in each category. I would also love BGA to give me a flying car. All are equally likely to happen.

There doesn't appear to be any restriction requiring your to have played a game to vote for it.

It is just my personal habit not to throw out a vote in categories i am not interested in.

Yeah I've played about 40 BGA games, which I don't think is an unreasonably low number. Only a few of them were voting options across all categories, and none of them are truly the best in that category in my opinion. Also why is "forest" a category of game?

Of all the games listed I have played just two. I voted for those and randomly chose the other three. The award will be pointless as it's a weird subset of games on here, and you're making people vote for categories they haven't got any experience with. As the OP says, let the users actually nominate and choose the games they want to vote for. This system is pointless.

Why is Ned Flanders in all the BGA new release artwork? Just BGA being "quirky."

Because BGA is headquartered in French Flanders.

That just explains that there is a connection to the character so the choice of the character is not random. It does not explain why *any* character is being inserted into the artwork in the first place, which is what I was referring to as quirky.

Another poster points out the other issue with this voting process. You are forced to vote for all the categories even if you have never played any of the games in some categories, making the awards pointless as so many of the votes are just random.
