elo calculation when someone left the game

Post by fgffsgs »

There's a (unreasonable) problem face last game. It's a 3 player game. I have 380 elo and other 2 players have 350 and 150,and the 350 player quit in the middle of the game(69%) making me [a tie vs 150] and [a win vs 350] which only gives me +1.19 point total (-1.99 for the tie and +3.18 for the win ),but in game it's (basically) like a 100% win for me. And this is a bigger problem if the 150 elo player is at 50 elo .I might get a -5 for the tie which means I'm winning in the game but because someone quit I might even get reduce elo.

To deal with the problem I think we can still count it as a tie for players still in game but with +0 for both of us and get double elo from the player who left the game

I think when a game is neutralized because someone left you never get negative (total) elo change. At least that's the theory/intent. If you actually do, you may report it as a bug.

I believe someone stated in the main thread about the latest elo changes that the recent changes caused the possibility of losing elo in this situation to be possible again. What should be done is that you do not lose elo to the other player/s that didn't quit but you both/all evenly split whatever elo is gained.

Someone did report it as a bug in December and it was rejected: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=106259

Maybe Tisaac can clarify. Was this rejected because it was filed under caverna specifically when this is a site wide issue? If bga is acknowledging that the old format of team elo (tying with people) is incorrect then why wouldn’t that apply to this situation when someone quits/gets expelled from a game before it finishes? The person who filed the report lost 11 pts for a game they were declared a winner.

Yeah Tisaac rejected because it's not linked to the game.

You should report to the bga website, not from a game.

The bug report said that 'I won bu lost elo'. So you answer it by saiying it's what should usually happen, what is 'normal'.

I'm not seeing anythng weird here.
