Thanks to everybody who replied.

It is clear to me that no, this is not a reportable offense. Thank you.

It was also a relief to have people commiserate with me and agree that they would have felt offended if someone booted them on the last play. Thank you.

It was also a good reality check to be reminded that I exposed myself to the choice of an unscrupulous person when I overplayed my last turn, if I don't want people to boot me then I shouldn't give them the opportunity to. Thank you.

Great to hear the varied insight of the community, I have come to grips with the reality and accepted it. Thank you.

Definitely not reportable I was kicked on the last turn recently. I think it was my 9th game of Ark Nova ever and only because I needed 10 seconds to resolve the determination rule extra action to play a conservation project. It stinks that I get negative karma for not completing a game on my last turn where I probably would have won even passing on determination rule.

Honestly, I'd prefer if this were a place where people were more kind and even chatted a bit during the game. I'm pretty sure our 100-200 elo games aren't getting us famous.

Ok I was just on the receiving end of this. Playing on phone, fast game speed and last turn I had a Sun Bear into Silver Lake determination turn. Opponent was about to win anyway, and by a large margin (disgusting starting hand by them but that's another story). Instead of letting me finish my turn (I was actively playing my actions) they kicked me as soon as the timer hit 0:00. I cannot fathom how miserable you have to be in your life to do such a thing. My opponents sometimes go overtime while taking the bigger turns but I never kick them when they do. This is just disheartening and made me cancel my premium subscription on the spot.

Something needs to be done about this, for example:
- don't give an ELO and karma penalty as if it was a deliberate abandon, it's just salt on the wound
- reset the timer on determination/hypnotize effects, this is really the biggest culprit and the only reason this is even an issue

Until then I'm not giving my money to BGA anymore. Kick feature should be used only to deal with disconnects and AFKs. This is not a chess tournament with a big cash prize at the end and careers on the line. It's an online board game made to have some fun on your spare time.

This is the kind of world I, and apparently you, want to live in. In my last game of Caverna, every single one of my opponents besides me, including the leader and eventual winner, went over time at some point, yet....miraculously no one was expelled and the game finished normally. I didn't know any of them. Maybe they knew each other, but we were spread across three countries and two continents. That is the world we wanted to and chose to live in. One in which you treat someone you've never met like you would treat someone sitting in your home at your gaming table.

However....I have to live in the reality that BGA is filled with people who will choose a different path because that's the kind of world they want to live in. That's their choice. For better or worse (probably worse), I peruse the forum a lot and have seen the last turn Ark Nova issue raised at least a half dozen times. Being forewarned about it, I chose to play my first game turn-based and will only play turn-based or with people I know in the future unless this timing for the last turn is modified.

I've just been kicked out from our game on Ark Nova. Last turn, playing twice thanks to Eagle, picking cards ... It was my 1st time out, and i've been kicked while playing (i mean the guy was full aware i wasn't afk).
On the top of that, i check the playing time /player on the stats. I was the fastest (from far) during the game. Iit's not the 1st time it arrives, i'm totally pissed off. Not reportable ? Ahah

Haha I just got a moderation message saying I lost 10 karma for sending a swear word to the guy who kicked me. So the victim is getting punished even more, nice. At least I get comfort in knowing he will stay in ELO hell forever.

Not sure to understand what you are complaining about. Why would his action justify yours ? Again, there is nothing against the rules about kicking someone that is out of time, whereas there is a rule about swearing being forbidden. We can discuss here whether kicking on last turn is a real issue and what could be done to change that in a maner that wouldnt cause additional harm, but please dont use it as an excuse for everything.

Truth be told, I just messaged the F word with an asterisk inside. My account is 7 years old and this is the first time I am ever pushed to send someone a negative message, so please don't make it sound like I am a rude person. As I said, I am always nice to everybody, I wait politely when they need to go AFK, I accept a mutual forfeit when they do not feel like playing anymore, and I never kick anybody who is actively playing. In my eyes, this is griefing, as in, it is within the rules set up by this website but I still find it very rude. And this is the real issue here. Something needs to be done about it, I don't care what, to make me want to play real-time again, especially on mobile. I feel like giving a time bonus for determination effects would be a simple solution but I suppose you have a reason for not implementing it as you didn't react to my previous message. If so, could you explain what that reason is?

as far as i remember from another post if you get extra time for determination it would need to happen every time so if you take back the turn and do determination again you again get the time

Okay, this could be solved by making the decision to take a new action irreversible, like drawing from the deck does. But I guess it will also frustrate players who messed up their ordering. Also it would kind of force people to play their big multiple turns faster because they couldn't just rewind everything. I think it would be a step in the right direction overall. Chess has the rule where if you touch a piece you have to use it. At some point you've got to question whether it's a good thing to allow rewinding a whole sequence of multiple actions anyway.
