I’m going to be honest, I GLEEFULLY kick anyone the moment their timer goes off. Even on the fast setting it is plenty of time to plan out and execute your turn. I have never timed out in a game before. What has happened to me in suffering through a game where a player takes 50 minutes total time while I take 21 minutes total time. Slow players in a turn based game imo are just inconsiderate / selfish , and I will kick them in any situation. Last turn, winning position, losing position, unclear position, and every time I do it brings me so much joy because I was able to make selfish and inconsiderate persons life overall a little worse. I will then tell them in chat how much joy it brought me too, just to rub more salt in the wound, and laugh about the karma they lose. If you don’t want to be kicked for being slow, pick the “slow” setting and stay out of fast where people just want to play quick turns.

Just to clarify, you'd also do it if they'd taken 19 minutes total time and you'd taken 21, but they were slow on the very last turn? Because that's the scenario we've been discussing. The site obviously allows you to do it, but I'm just curious whether you think the two situations are equivalent or whether the 50 vs. 21 minutes was just a straw man.

Last game I got expelled I was at a grand total of 23 min and it was the last move of the game. Opponent was at 19 min so not much faster than me. Again, we're talking about situations where you've been playing normally the whole game and have a time consuming last turn. If you add the mental computation of planning a sequence of 3 actions while evaluating the best choices for each step, and then add execution time with the added bonus of a fiddly mobile UI and possibly some server lag, it can happen that you go overtime even if you're usually a fast player. I think my average time per game is between 15 min and 20 min.

But I might just be responding to a troll.

I agree that Frogking81 is a troll. Using the allocated time to play a turn is not being inconsiderate/selfish, as long as they never run out of time and are not stalling. Ark Nova is a complex game and I can totally understanding taking a couple minutes to evaluate the best action. Forcing people to play super fast just because you play super fast is being inconsiderate/selfish.

There has been quite a bit of debate on this subject.

I noticed that there is already one suggestion (not yet reviewed) with BGA developers #35239 that speaks to how this could be addressed.

I also raised another with a further suggestion #114148

If enough people vote for these, they might make it up the tree far enough for some modifications to the system to be made to accommodate these kind of situations.

Take the time to seek it out and vote please, if you agree.

In online poker player has X amount of extra thinking/action time in time bank, which can be used (automatically used) during whicever position of the whole tournament - in BGA:s implementation during game. This would solve all the problems.

For example: Fast speed game is like current settings + 2 minute time bank for the whole match.

With time bank feature they could even introduce new "ultra-fast" game speed option for all the slow play whiners out there, which could work like 2 minutes per turn + 3 minute time bank for the match.
Good idea. Did you submit it in suggestions?

Well this is already the case with the chess clock. You have a time bank of 5min and you gain +X per turn, capped to 5, so it's even better because you can bank multiple time more than just the Xmin per turn...

I don't see why expelling people on the last turn would be reportable. Join with settings you can play all turns under and you'll be fine. On the other hand I do see some issues with the lack of settings available where for example in fast the difference between the people who need 15 minutes and the people taking well over 30 minutes is quite ridiculous. I don't really see why anyone would think that's an enjoyable experience for the faster player.
