Wrongful expulsion from Through the Ages

Post by Beehive20 »

I was playing with * and the site started processing my turns very slowly. I messaged in the game that I was experiencing technical problems, but * promptly expelled me! Could I please get my karma back? It wasn’t my fault the site was having problems.

*Moderator edit: the Forums are a space for general discussion, not for calling out players by name

Many of us have been caught in this situation. It's unfortunate, but there's no way to prove it was a site issue (if in fact it was, because sometimes it can be your connection that's the problem for a short moment). When there are obvious site issues, they do acknowledge it and penalties are waived. That said, if you do get a penalties, the first few for leaving aren't really that harsh - you can still do everything on the site you normally do, and if you keep playing and don't have any more disconnections, you'll recover pretty quickly (in fact, given that was your second recent expulsion penalty, and you've already recovered about 3/4 of your first one, you're well on your way to doing that).

(Note, I have no association with admin of BGA, I'm just a user like you, who also like you, posted at one point asking for my first penalty, which didn't seem like it was my fault, to be waived - it wasn't, I've had other penalties since, and it's just not worth worrying about. Just keep playing.)

I'm not sure what nik is talking about, but one of the admins said in the general forum that the things were off.

According to history, there will probably be some official text with "karmas restored due to bug (...)".
The elo is lost, though, due to some "domino effect".

Stinky bug issue, bad luck.

Which forum are you referring to (as I would have thought this was the general forum - or do you mean general messages)? I hadn't seen any reports of site issues today. If there are site issues, yes, penalties are often waived. Otherwise, don't worry too much about it and just keep playing and your karma will come back.

Hi. During the lagging issue yesterday, I saw 1 of the admins (lordalx) write in the general message box (the one that's always at the bottom of the BGA pages, on the right).
I wasn't referring to any forum, but the General Messages box.

I meant General Chat there, sorry for the mistake.

Ah, I see. That's surprising then, if they acknowledged it and penalties weren't waived. But the General Chat doesn't hold much history so if you don't happen to be online AND watching the chat at that moment, you probably won't see it. I personally keep General Messages muted because it's just full of people seeking games that I'm usually not looking for (and if I am, will find via searching).
