I know this game plays VERY differently according to player count. Personally I like the idea of 2-player games, and I leave the 3+ player games to experimental diplomatic fun games.

But in the 2-player game I have had some serious one-sided games where it comes down to the first player choice.
Game#1: 2 Queens, one of them was Ottoman. There was quick pawn majority very early and no trade route shifts.
Game#2: I think I had an early Jihad in ottoman, and a queen to start. Same thing again - almost dominant from the 2nd turn.

A good idea might be to only allow 1 action for the 1st player in the 1st turn.
