Is there any way to see which cards have been discarded (at least the last one)?

Re: See discarded cards?
I believe this is likely intentional due to the designer’s intention for the face up discard pile. Matthias Wigge said in a BGG thread that the discard pile is not public information, even if it is supposed to be face up to differentiate it from the draw pile. So at best, only one card would be visible at a time, as you suggest. It might be an interesting feature for live games, as the limited information of that visible card would be more useful when you’re paying more uninterrupted attention to the screen.
Re: See discarded cards?
Even then, you could reverse engineer the discard pile by looking at the game history log. So in the sense of online adaptation, it would make very much sense to let the players see the discard pile.
Re: See discarded cards?
Bumping an old thread as I am curious,
Why we are not allowed to see the top card of the discard deck? If/When the expansion become implemented, the horse whisperer card would allow thorough investigation of the entire discard pile and then select the petting zoo animal of your choice.
The glossary even states to return cards to the discard pile face up. Did the designer provide any update on this other than a BGG forum? It would be nice if it was an official stance, that the discard pile shall indeed stay as hidden information unless specifically instructed.
I guess I could understand how adding the feature would slow down the game in a certain way as the player discarding excess cards could choose what the visible discarded card will be. (hunter, perception, hand limit during break)

(This is just my opinion...)
The rules give players the option to use a face-down discard...
And then when you consider the face-up discard is primarily so players don't confuse it with the draw pile, which isn't an issue with a digital implementation, face-down looks like the better decision to me.

But you're right that the default in the rules is face-up. So why might the face-down option be used on BGA? One good reason would be for ease of implementation and speed of play. If you had a face-up discard pile, you'd have to specify the card on top when discarding multiple cards, slowing down the game slightly. But more impactful is that discarding during break can no longer be simultaneous, which can potentially slow down the game significantly (I personally hate waiting in turn-based games for those kind of minor decisions).A face-up discard pile is easier to distinguish from the other card piles. This prevents you from unintentionally drawing the wrong card type. Of course, you can keep the discard pile face down, if you prefer.

Re: See discarded cards?
The reason is exactly the last item. We of course discussed that with publisher during developpement and they said that ideally the face down discard was better in their opinion, as long as the card names are logged on the right when player is discarding cards from display, which is the case hereArtEntre wrote: ↑24 February 2024, 03:00 (This is just my opinion...)

Re: See discarded cards?
That is incorrect. You can only see the details of what you discards. For all other players, it simply says "ABC has discarded X cards".
Re: See discarded cards?
This is wrong then. You should always see what someone discards. This is a crucial part of strategy.greenjacket124 wrote: ↑26 February 2024, 23:17That is incorrect. You can only see the details of what you discards. For all other players, it simply says "ABC has discarded X cards".

Someone who has played in tournaments for over 10 years (and won). This is how it is done on all other online platforms. And just general common sense. In real life games you also inevitably see what and how many is discarded.greenjacket124 wrote: ↑27 February 2024, 16:12Says who?Stroom wrote: ↑27 February 2024, 06:31This is wrong then.
