New internet line dropped out

Post by CheekyWagwan »

hi all - I was in a great game of Poker yesterday with a lady in the US when my newly installed fibre internet cut out. I returned to BGA today to be informed that I was let off with a warning and that a technical failure including not having a reliable internet connection will go against me if it happens again. I can get a strike for something out of my control? That seems a little unfair. Or did I miss read it?

thanks!

Yes, because BGA has no ability to investigate claims of internet outages around the world. The first time it happens apparently you just get a warning. After that it's a 10 karma penalty which can be restored simply by completing games. But if a player finds that they are regularly losing their connection, it's the player's responsibility to play formats suited to those circumstances (like turn-based games). For example, if someone knows that on their subway commute there are spots where they have bad reception, they should not be starting real-time games on that commute.

Ah, I see, fair enough. Maybe it was the way it was worded. Was it a translation?

The site is based in France. Although many of the site admins are obviously competent in English, there are certain semantic nuances that affect tone that may not resonate with someone who didn't learn it as a first language.

I just had the same experience.
Travelling on business, whiling away the long boring evening in the hotel on BGA, played half a dozen games of Captain Flip, then moved on to 7 Wonders Duel - and the hotel WiFi dropped dead.
Got my warning. Lesson learned - when in a hotel, don't play real-time games.
Annoying, because it's the only time I ever really have "me-time" without getting interrupted. So at home, I don't have time to myself to play real-time stuff, and when travelling I cannot guarantee that my internet connection doesn't drop, so I can't play real-time either.
Ah well, I should be grateful that BGA exists in the first place.
