Turn-based Puerto Rico could be improved...

Post by Tortom »

Playing turn-based Puerto Rico is a bit painful. The worst is the Captain phase - even after shipping your goods, it goes through an additional round getting each player (who has an appropriate building) to select which good to store, and then another round letting each player select another good to hold one of.

I think most players, given the option, would be happy to specify those things when they are no longer able to ship any more goods (without regard to what the other players do in those rounds) and this would really help with the pace. Early in the game most players have little choice in the matter - you wait a round to specify which good you want to store even though you have only 1 good.

Alternatively, I wonder whether we could develop a variant of the game that is better suited for turn based play. One element of that variant could be that players make their decisions about storing goods at the end of the captain phase without seeing what each other have decided.

Good suggestion. At a minimum, the forced shipping should be automatic and players should keep one good if they only have one - without the program asking. For players with several goods, deciding which to keep should go by turn order - as one person's decision may affect the next.

Would love to see forced shipping implemented in this game. It is really my only issue with what is a very well implemented version of the game.

Thanks again to the developer!
