Allow us to disable Provocative/Insult warning for specific friends

Post by evil_liquor_shot »

I understand why this message exists,
Is this provocative or an insult? Please do NOT engage if it is. You may want to block this player with a red thumb and/or report them to the moderators.
but it would be nice to have a way to disable it for certain friends, who i know will not see anything as an insult (i'm not sending insults, but the filter list is broad and catches things without understanding context).

Not asking for you to turn if off the receiving person, so they can still report it, just free the sender from the message.

We should be able to disable it for all communications. This kind of annoying intrusion into my personal communications with others is unasked for. I am an adult and able to judge for myself.

You don't know who you are playing with, or even who spectate your games.
There are many young people on the website, and moderate a bit the language doesn't seem too much to me.

About our friends, we can use external textual/vocal communication tools to avoid this.

Exactly, and I can judge this by myself. For me, I rarely swear, and such pop-ups and warnings are intrusive, annoying, and induces anxiety. Are the restricted words posted anywhere?

EDIT: Profanity-warnings are really annoying and doesn't consider different languages. This _alone_ is good reason for allowing us to disable it. A typical example is the word "s7ut" - "slutet av spelet" -> "the end of the game", which is a completely normal word in Swedish, and very useful in gaming, but you would get the annyoing pop-up every time you used it because the warning-filter isn't language-sensitive. As for the family-friendly argument, children should use children's accounts with word filters if parents wish so, to prevent them from even seeing the words. Because atm that warning doesn't prevent people from writing anything, it makes us reconsider what we write, which I agree is a good ting. But any word-filtering also has a chilling effect on communication.

Or we could have an option to turn it off. Simpler, easier.
EDIT: Actually, for real-life friends, you're right, of course it's better to use external tools.

After searching some I found that this is an old and well-known suggestion/bug that have concerned people for years: https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=9903. So don't hold your breath, I guess...

For friends, and the ones i think of turning this off, i sure do know who i am playing with, i am only talking about private messages, not game chat, so that chat is not visible to spectators at all.

Again i am not asking to remove moderation, but allow opt out cases that users can opt into. You can still keep the report capability and or opt back in if there is an issue,

I just added this to the bug report:

What I don't understand is that the message talks about "is this provocative or an insult". I can offend or insult someone without using "curse words".

You look like a horse's bottom.

See, no cursing. So the system in place is badly implemented. The filter should be off. (if children have accounts, they should have parental permission as is.)

There should be a blanket statement when you sign up for an account explaining that this is an international site and language differences may be present. I have seen this on other sites, and once I see that, it's my choice whether or not to proceed with being on the site.

The solution is that there should be a report option on chats somewhere universal. (drop down or under the burger menu in games) This way, if an offensive or insulting action takes place, the chat is saved and a moderator can review it. Don't only give me the option when a "bad" word is used, because, as I have shown above, it doesn't take a curse word for those actions to take place.

Please, this is so annoying having some arbitrary standard that applies to the minority for acceptable speech being enforced on the majority. Just let us turn off this annoying "feature".

I agree
