Turn Time Red Bar on Turn Based

Post by Liallan »

Has anyone else had trouble with the turn time clock?

I have a turn-based game that is 1 turn per day. It is late evening right now where I am at. I took a turn on this game yesterday evening. I don't remember the exact time - what I do know is there is no way it's been less than maybe 22 hours since then. It's likely been over 24 hours.

As of about 7:30 this morning, the red bar was about 4 hours along. (i.e. about 1/3 of 1/2 of it, 1/3 of 12 hours) No way. I did not take that turn at 3:30 in the morning.

I next checked it around 9:00 in the evening (i.e. 13 1/2 hours later)... and yet that bar still has not even hit the halfway mark yet. As of right now, it's at least close to 24 hours if not over. And yet that bar is STILL not even halfway across yet. (It's about 8-9 hours in.) It's like it's running in about 1/3 time.

I've only got 2 games going and the other seems fine. This may just be a one-time quirk. (Although I'm already getting the feeling this is a slow player, so this doesn't excite me much.)

Has anyone else seen any problems with this?

(Yes, I know I can report a bug, but if it's a one-time quirk and there's no other problems, I don't see the point.)

I'm not sure this is a quirk. It may be expected behavior.

The red bar indicates how much time the current player has to play.

Let's say you have a 1 turn per day game. You make your move, conveniently, at midnight. The bar drops to zero.
You check the game again at 0600. The bar is be about 1/4th the way across, indicating your opponent has used 6 of their allowed 24 hours.
Now, you come back at noon, 1200. The bar is still 1/4th across. What happened? Your opponent made their move at 0601. The bar indicates that you have used 6 of your allowed 24 hours.
You make a move, then come back and check it at midnight. The bar is half-way across, indicating your opponent has yet to make their move. At 0600 you check again, and see the bar somewhere between 1/8th and 1/4th across. This means your opponent made their move somewhen between midnight and 0300.

The situation gets stranger with more players, but it follows the basic rule. The red bar indicates the current player, not necessarily you.

But, your opponent most likely did.

If this is not the case, keep a detailed record of when you checked, what the bar indicated, and whose turn it is. That will help when you file the bug report.

Oh, and thread hijack.....

Remember that they are allowed their full thinking time, be it realtime or turn-based. They committed to make a move at least once every 24 hours. You committed to allowing them that time. :) (OK, this is a touchy subject for me -- I've run into a few people who fail to grasp that concept, and constantly hound players for slow play when they don't play at the same speed as others at the table, even when they aren't even approaching running out of time.)

I think it is you who are confused. :P

I took my last turn two days ago, at some time of the day earlier than right now, i.e. more than 48 hours ago.

It is my opponent's turn. (2 player) It has been more than 48 hours and the red bar is about 3/4 the way across, indicating it's only been ~12 hours since I took my turn. It's running at about 1/4 to 1/3 the speed it should.

There were no turns of mine involved in anything I posted - that was all about his turn and his red bar. I do understand how it works. (Unlike many people, I try really hard to get how things work.)

So it is at the very least a quirk on this game. The only reason I posted this is to see if anyone else had seen such behavior and if it was worth reporting. If it's just a quirk on this game, no problem - I can live with that. (Should I say screw it and report it anyway? Just hate to bug them.)(Pardoning the pun.)

(And by the way, I do not expel people easily. ;) He had 24 hours to take his turn and it's been over 48 hours. Even if the expel thing was showing up (which it should be), I doubt I would do anything about it yet, but rather wait and see if this is a pattern. As to their "total thinking time," turn based can add up to a ridiculous amount of time - I could see capping that. If we're not supposed to expel anyone before total time is up, why does the option to do so show up? (Yeah, thread hijack. ;) ) But his total thinking time is actually running down, despite that the "current turn time" is messed up.)
