I saw page 29 or so that if you leave a tournament you get a karma penalty: is it true also if you leave the tournament between 2 games (meaning you did not leave a game, only the tournament) ?

The penalty is for leaving the tournament. You get a separate penalty if you leave a game as well 👍

Thanks;
Another one: if you mark a player as "i don't want to play with him again". What could happen in a tournament? Does the program avoid you to meet him at least in the first round?

I've clicked that button before and found myself matched with those people in tournaments thereafter.

Red thumbs do not affect tournament pairings, only regular and arena.

Is it possible to create a tournament where several different games are played simultaneously, involving a subset of tournament participants?

For example, we have 5 people in the tournament, but we'll play 3-player games. This works out to 10 games to cover all 3-player combinations once.

Is there a combination of tournament settings that will allow us to play these 10 games in parallel? I tried with 5 players playing 4 player games, and it seems it plays one game after another. I was hoping for playing them in parallel.

Thanks for the help in advance.

If I understand correctly, you want the equivalent of a round-robin tournament, but for multiple-player games (e.g. Catan). And you want all the tables to commence simultaneously. The answer is no, the tournament system on BGA will not allow that, because if you try to create a Catan tournament with format Round Robin, you get a rather ungrammatical error message, "Only 2 players matches are supported for Round-robin Elimination tournament".

Hi, can anyone explain something to me: In the page for a tournament at https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=221643 , it says, "tomorrow at 15:00: Potion Explosion The Long Game Potion Explosion (Tournament draw + 5 matches)". Does that mean that everyone will then start playing in 5 matches at once at 15:00, or that there will only be 5 matches altogether starting at that time (with 4 players each) and the rest of the participants will be waiting for a match, or what? I'd have asked the tournament organiser but it says in his profile that we have to ask questions in places such as this before bothering him. So I'd appreciate it if someone who understands tournaments can explain exactly what the reference to 5 matches means. I don't want to misunderstand it because I don't have time to play 5 matches at once. I've seen in this thread about tournaments making people play lots of matches at the same time, but those were round-robin and this is swiss, so I can't work out what the reference to 5 matches at 15:00 (UK time) means. Thanks.

You literally did ask me and I told you I had no idea what it means. I'm not BGA staff, nor tech-support, but I told you it's a 2x20-game swiss-system tournament, as per the settings on the page, and I had no idea what the +5 matches thing referred to.

I'm very sorry, I certainly didn't intend to ask you directly; other than the post here I only tried to follow the other suggestion in your profile, namely "posting a message where it says 'Recent Activity' on the main page of the tournament"; I'm sorry if I did that wrongly in some way and it ended up somehow being a direct question to you instead. I couldn't see any way to post a message under recent activity other than to comment on one of the existing posts.

Unless someone else understands what the +5 matches means, I suppose I will have to just stay out of the tournament and watch what happens so that I'll know in future (and then post the answer here for other people). But hopefully someone else will be able to tell me.
