Is the option to only destroy some of the plants missing ?

Post by danielvictor »

I don't want to report this as a bug,in case I missed something. But I couldn't see a way to only destroy some of the plants permitted with asteroids and Deimos.

The developer was asking about this. What are some cases where it is strategically best to only destroy some plants?

it is feasible that you may have a card you wish to play that has an oxygen requirement that is one step away. the opponent has perhaps 11 plants and you would like them to place one tile to increase oxygen - while at the same time wanting them to not have the extra 3 plants. Would be unusual, but some people play chess while i play checkers

Also, you might not want to annoy an opponent too much.

On tabletop version, when I had the opportunity to destroy x number of plants, I would sometimes negotiate with that player and destroy leads than x, to earn their partial mercy later on. But that only happened once or twice and I've played the game 60± times.

It happens a bit more in face-to-face games.Sometimes,a group of us link up on discord before starting a game,so that makes it a bit more like face-to-face.

It sounds like you are talking about a "House Rule". From my understanding, BGA is only able to offer options expressly permitted by the game publisher/designer. It's not likely that a house rule will be implemented.

I believe the wording on the cards reads 'up to'. If that is correct, then I'm talking about the actual rules. If it's wrong, then I apologise.

From the designer's FAQ on BGG:

"Effects that remove your own resources are mandatory, while effects that remove resources from any player (marked by a red border around the resource icon) are voluntary and may be performed in full, in part or not at all."
