So disappointing

Post by Manud73 »

So new arena season is 3p without corporate era 😒
How is this competitive at all ?

Guess I'll have to wait until next season then 😕

To be fair, the king-making would be even worse with Corporate Era on. Unfortunately I think people have already figured out that dog-piling the last-place person and playing for 2nd is the ideal route to rank up since you still get points for second place.

I'm guessing the maintainers didn't want arena to be the same 2p game rules every season, so this was the compromise.

No kidding, my very first game in the arena i could've easily screw over the guy that deserved 2nd place and give it to someone else. Sucks.

Keep in mind that kingmaking is against the site-wide rules: https://boardgamearena.com/faq
My guess is that they're using more beginner-friendly rules for the first seasons to attract new players from the site.
If you go directly for the best rules for more seasoned players (of which hordes have created new accounts specifically for this game), you get an arena season that's inaccessible for new players.

And keep in mind that you can become a guru pretty fast if you play often. And then you can be part of the decision process.

I don't really think Corporate era is beginner-unfriendly, you are only supposed to play non-corporate for the first game or two. It adds no new rules, just cards.

You can do kingmaking without being aware you do.
If the table is unbalanced with 2 experienced players and one less so, the one seated at the left of the beginner will be greatly favored.

Arena is supposed to be the competitive side of BGA.

3p is not ideal.
Not including corporate era cards is not competitive at all.
I believe no strong player will ever compete seriouly with this set of rules

Something else that not many people have mentioned is that without the Corporate Era cards, all standard resources start with a production of 1. Some might argue that having production from the get-go helps beginners and gets the game moving (as opposed to starting with 0 production with Corporate Era). I’m not sure I agree—I learned the game playing with all the cards—but I wonder if that might be part of the rationale for some people.

I would have to wait 3 month, cant play this, dont see the point. Same as my friends, but they would never write it here. 4/5 games are the same. We need prelude, but NO CORP ERA is way too sad. They can swap rules 2p-4p from season to season, but not including corp era is a mistake imo.

I don't know guys, no corp era is super fun, much of the weaker cards have a place in the game. It's much more costly to make a mistake than corp era, which makes the current arena setting much more intense. It's good, you guys should check some of the games out, I am having a blast. I feel like games are decided with less luck than corp era.

isn't the game rather decided wether you had tharsis or ecoline ? I feel like those corporations are more successful. It's an open question as i didn't even finish my first game.
